Default Question for Brake Experts

I am thinking about changing out my stock brake pads for some Hawk HPS (non-brembo) soon due to the excessive amount of brake dust the stock pads put out on the front brakes.

My question is - should I change all four pads at the same time or can I just change the front pads w/o causing a brake imbalance betweent the front pads & rear pads?

I don't get much dust from the rear stock pads, but the front pads are dusting like crazy! Would I be ok to just replace the front for now & replace the rears later or should I just suck it up & do all four?

you can just change the fronts...as long as the rears are still in good shape.

Thanks! The rears seems to be in good shape, but the fronts are giving a faint squeal & dusting way too much to my liking. I'll change out the fronts since that seems to be my problem area right now.

Since the Hawk HPS is friction wise pretty close to a street pad you shouldnt' have a problem. If you were going to a more track dedicated pad then the jump in friction in the front might be enough to convince you to swapping front and rear.

Hawk HPS is totally a street pad. Not close to. H(high) P (performance) S (street). Nobody should think that this is even remotely useable as a track type pad.

You'll be fine on the street with HPS in the front and the stockers in the rear. As Racin said though, get some good race pads if you want to track your car. Your brakes will be gone almost immediately on the racetrack with street pads.
