Default Changed to Hawk brake pads, now I'm squeaking

I changed to the Hawk HPS pads front and back and after a week I'm getting a squeak.

I used anti-squeak grease between on the back of the pads.

The stock fronts had a metal plate that I didn't use because it looked like it didn't fit. Should I have made it work somehow?

Did you bed them in properly?

I did go through the procedure on the box. Would that have an effect on squeaking?

im actually going to order hawk pads this week, is this a known "problem"? Hawk pads are supposed to be silent.

Not true, they squeaked on my 03, and I installed them on my 05 Roadster. They still squeak at very low speeds, but not all the time like on my 03 Z.

I would take the noise anyday over the dusting!

from what I've heard they squeal when they are cold, when you warm them up they get very sticky.

Thats a funny one, haha. I have seen zillions of posts about Hawk HPS and noise problems. Now I'm not 100% convinced it is the pads fault but rather is improper installation or bed in procedures. My advice would be spray anti-squeak spray on everything having to do with the pad except the contact surface to be on the safe side and then go out and break them in properly.

I put the grease on the back of both pads. These pads came with a metal plate mounted to the pad itself. The SS plate that was on the front stock pads didn't seem to fit. And I did a bed procedure.

Should I have used it somehow?

I've used Hawk HPS on my Z without any squeeking issues. As stated above, try bedding them in again, perhaps going a little more aggressive than what's on the box. Have also used HP+ on the street and track without squeeking as well. But in both cases I was pretty aggressive with bedding them in.

Try our bed-in procedures here:
http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/bedincontents.htm

Noise should go away until you wear off the pad transfer layer again. When that happens, bed them again!

just bed them and that will take care of the problem. I put them on a '03 4 weeks ago, no squeaks at all and no brake dust at all.

Hawks don't squeak, they squawk. So maybe you just need anti-squawk grease.

my small angled ss plates fit as well as another thin metal plate that was stuck on my oem brembo pads. I had to pry that one off since it was stuck on. I put them both on my HPS's and they work great, not a single squeak yet.
