Default How do I remove the EDFC motor without damage?

Ok, so I need to tighten the top nut on my Tein CS Coilovers. Problem is, as per instruction for the install, I put on some thread lock (that they supplied) before screwing on the motors.

I know they are pretty sensitive to pressure... so how am I supposed to take them off? I honestly havn't tried yet, but I don't want to screw them up.

Any recommended method to do this?

I removed a couple. On the fronts it's easy, wrap a rag around the motor, use some BIG channel locks to twist the motor and a 10mm wrench to hold the top of the shock. Helps to have two people. You'll have to twist pretty hard, but once the thread locker is broken it spins easy.

Rears are harder, I used a torch and vice to bend a cheap 10mm wrench so it will fit in between the pillowball upper mount and the top of the shock. Then do the same thing as the fronts.

My motors did end up getting a little scarred, but they seem to work fine so far.

have you considered calling Tein about a rebuild of the shock itself? they have a
west coast production facility from what I understand, and they might be able to help you out or diagnose what needs to be done to make this liveable.

I honestly don't think I need a rebuild of the shock. I just want to tighten the top nut down, as several hundred other Tein owners need to do at some time or another.

I just can't believe that no one here knows how to take the EDFC motor off once its been threadlocked on. Well, besides brute force, and custom torched tools :-)

I've given you the answer, there is no magic way to get them off. You need to break the loctite and the only way to do that is by force or heat them up. Heat is not an option, so use force or leave them on.
