Default Squeeky Brakes *But not when braking*

Tired various searches but the other threads seem to talk about squeeks when you're actually braking.

My problem is just the opposite. I get an intermittent high pitched squeek that varies in frequency (like woo woo) coming from the right rear (brembo) when I'm not using the brakes. The noise immediately goes away when I touch the brakes after making a higher pitched squeek for a split second. Then it'll come back after I release the brakes.

At my 15K mile service, there was a lot of pad left despite a track day and I haven't done anything else in the last 9K.

I'm going to take the rears apart tomorrow and check the pads just in case and make sure that it's not a reminder bar that's making the squeek.

Just wondering if y'all could give me any ideas on what to look for etc?

Sounds like a warning indicator to me. when you say lot of pad, exactly how much, 6mm, 9mm, or did you just eyeball it?

Hey Bixby,
Thanks for the quick response. I had the 15K done at the dealership and while I don't remember the exact numbers, they were right in between the min and max. I'm figuring that since I haven't run on the track and it's only been another 9K, that I'd be OK on the pads. I bought a spare set of pads to put in tomorrow if needed or not.

Probably shot if you did a track day after the 15k service plus 9k more miles.

Nope. I had a track day during the first 15k before the service. No time or $ to go to the track since then.

I hope it's just the pads and not something else.

Your pads might have been vitrified (glazed) from over-heating.

Or simply a pebble stuck somewhere...

Thanks, Kolia. It's been too long since the track day as it's been over a year since and the squeeking started recently.

Hoping it's just a pebble/debris or used up pads.

This is NOT the warning squeak. I also have this issue with Brembo rear brakes. More often than I'd like I turn down the music to hear an embarrassing squeak-sqqqueaaakk-sqeeeek it is coming from the rear so I yank the parking brake. The parking brake has about 3 inches of free-play before it tightens up and grabs the pads. Sometimes I have to do this 3-4 times and the noise stops for sometime. It is just interesting because it feels like the parking brake cable sticks on something and needs a few tugs to tighten up again.

if it's the parking brake it can be adjusted easily

a seized piston(or seizing) would emit a constant whine

I hope this is the parking brake binding and not springing back off the rotors like it should.

I'm getting a little scared now.

I have this too. There seems to be something up with the right-rear wheel on Z's/G's that have the Brembos. I don't think it's a peble since so many people have it only from the right-rear wheel. I'm hearing about this issue more and more. And like you guys, when I use the brake pedal the noise goes away.

I took my car in about a week ago and in typically Nissan fashion, they "couldn't replicate it". They said they took the wheel off and lubed something hoping it might help but they didn't have any clue what the problem was. I think I heard the noise again the other day.

Al - LMK if you're going to take your wheel off to poke around. Maybe I can look over your shoulder.

No sweat. Check your PM's for my cell number. I live in beaverton off murray and scholls.

Mine pretty much happens every other time I get in the car so it wouldn't be too hard to replicate. They'll probably try to blame it on my front BBK but the noise is definitely coming from the rear though.

Well, turns out that I'm not going to have time tomorrow to look at it. I called the dealership and they had an opening this Friday morning so I'm going to take it in. I'm afraid that if I change out the pads, they'll blame the noise on them.

I also have the pull to the right so hopefully, they'll be able to look at that also.

I'll update the thread as soon as I find something out.

i have a G with 20000km
i got the same problem too!
i brought it into the dealer to check it out..
they couldn't find out what it was at the first time
but right after they hand me back my car
when i drive out the automall i hear the back right wheel squeeking
i run back to them right away... and the mechanic test drove with me
he heard the noise too!
but at the end they said that the brembo is not under warranty
to fix it i have to do a brake service around $150

i was like ... what????
u guys were not sure what the problem is..and now u ask me to pay u money for
the brakes!?!
which may or may not be the problem!
and with the 24000km check up service
i will have to do a brake service anyway...so y i wanna pay now??
so i just left the dumb place which wasted all my time!

anyway the squeeking seem to be gone for the last few weeks!
for some reason!?!

Well, I took the car in yesterday.
1. pads still had 7mm left (replacement is 2mm according to the service manual)
2. rotors were fine
3. pistons were fine
4. no pebbles, debris, or dust
They came to the conclusion that it must be the pads. I'm going to swap the pads out even though they've got a lot of life left (with project mu b-force pads) and see if those fix the situation.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

I'll update the thread after replacing the pads, perhaps next week.

Holy cow...This is what I am searching for...

I have the exact problem. Right side Brembo brake squeeling. Not all the time, but when it does I can tap on the brake and it goes away. Anyone find a solution?

I have the Hawk HPS pads...they stop great, but damn the noise is annoying.

I think you have to have your parking brake adjusted so that it isn't so tight (or something). I need to have this done myself.
