Default Tein Basic Coilovers Ride Height

I just purchased Tein Basics and I was wondering if anyone knows what the recommended drop height is that won't cause any potential camber problems? Thanks.

Its not a camber problem...

It will help you in the corners...

If you want to save $ on tires,,, see this thread...

https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-suspension-diy/137762-how-to-rotate-staggered-directional-tires.html

If you want less negitive camber then stock (which is already aggressive) for drag racing or to have less of an advantage in corners then get a camber kit...

That's a trick question. Even guy's that are at oem height can have tire wear problems. Though, the lower you go the more likely it will cause greater inside tire wear. In general, drops of less then .7"/.8" are considered safer concerning camber gain because it allows you a measure of safety concerning staying close to or within oem alignment specs. Honestly, before you bought coilovers you should have considered the camber/toe issue and have known the possibility,.........the likely hood of having to buy whole car alingment correction parts so you can have the drop amount that truely makes you happy and yet does have you saying, "man look at my inside tire wear".

To give you a more specific answer, Tein recommends that a 350Z on their Basic coilover be set to a 1"/,8" drop. Given your concern, my answer to you would be to set the car up for half that amount. If not, add Cusco or EVO350 front arms to the car and the SPC rear kit for camber and toe control. No matter what, after install take the car to a alingment shop that knows what they are doing and will not hand the car back to you with uneven front toe settings and uneven rear toe and camber settings.

Does anyone have pics of their Tein Basic suspension of what the thread on the adjustment looks like at 1" in front and .8" in the back?

I had installed my Tein basic suspension about two weeks ago. The settings that the instructions ask you to set it on is like 1" in the front and .8" in the back. The back however looked stock, so I lowered it to the max at 1.1". The rear now is perfect and matches the gap with the front. This drop height is safe, any lower than that and you wont be able to go over speed bumps or steep driveways. 1" all around is perfect, even then I scrape going over speed bumps, so I have to drive at an angle and slow; and my pipes scrape parking on my not too steep driveway. I have yet to take my car and check its alignment.

Can you guys post any pictures of your rides. I recall reading that the basics don't have upper mounts correct? and the rear springs i assume mounts on the stock location? Thanks

Yes and yes. Here is a pic of my car, the rear is dropped almost to the max (maybe 1/8" left) and front could go at least 1" lower:

1nate7, what were your camber settings in front and back after the drop? Just curiouse. I ordered the SPC rear camber arms, and would like to know if the toe will need adjusting as well. What have you done to correct your camber?

I have the Cusco A-arms in the front and nothing on the rear. I'll post up the exact alignment specs when I get home. I am not going to bother doing any camber mods to the rear. I found that dismounting the tires and swapping them side to side once during their lifetime pretty much takes care of the uneven wear. I never see more than 15k miles out of a set anyway.

Cool, thanks 1nate7. I'm curiouse to see how off your rear's are. Now im interested to see how off your front was. I don't care too much about the front at the moment. I do see however, that the rears do need adjusting. I will be installing the SPC camber arsm, its the toe bolts that I'm worried about. I really hate to drill out a bigger hole for the SPC toe bolts because say I want to go back to stock, then what?

Alignment specs:

camber, toe
Front left: -1.3, .06
Front right: -1.4, .05
Rear left: -1.8, .09
Rear right: -2.0, .07

That is with the Cusco arms set to full positive.

Wow, that's agressive. Especially in the back. Thank you for the info.

Put my basics on yesterday, makes the 19's look a little smaller but the car looks way more aggressive. I'll have negative camber in the front and rear though. I need the crap to fix that.
