With an air suspension.
The shocks are replaced with super heavy duty rubber air bags that can have air added to or removed from them thus changing the height of the vehicle. A small compressor (usually a VIAIR Corp) and air tank is hidden somewhere inside the car or in the engine compartment and provides the air pressure for the system.
The cool thing about this system is not only that you can slam your car (lower it almost to the frame) you can also raise your car really high if you come to a speed bump or steep entrance. These systems are fantastic because they don't have the weight penilties of batteries and all the associated pain in the butt of hydraulics; the air compressor and tank is usually around 10 lbs or less.
A lot of the cars that have adjustable ride settings (or overall settings) have these systems and do things like lower the car as the speed of the car increases. This seems to usually be done more in a quantum manner than at an analog rate.
Note: I am by no means an expert, I'm simply trying to say in my own words what I think I've learned from researching this a little. Please feel free to correct me where I have erred.
