Default Hawk pads.

When my stock pads go, I'd like to try Hawk pads. Do they give you less brake dust? Those of you that use the Hawk pads, do you like them?

I put em on last week. I feel that they grip better. I can get you a set of fronts for 25 plus actual shipping.

The Z's brakes are for some reason rear biased...at my first track event with the Z, I completely wore through the rears and only 50% of the fronts.

thats strange, does that mean the Z has more of an even brake distribution that regular cars? because i remember on my accord, i'll have to change my rear pads after 2 changes of the fronts. the rears last forever.

I just changed my pads a week ago @ 45k miles. The fronts were shot while the rears look brand new.

This is the kind of thread that led me to buy the Hawk HPS pads. Which I now wish I hadn't.

I would say NO, don't buy them. They have to be warmed up to stop consistently. Yes I bedded them in. Yes they give you less dust than stock. A lot less dust. But I feel that they're unsafe at freeway speeds . . . maybe others have had better experiences with them, but for my money I'll buy something else next time.

He's the link to a brake pad discussion that I had gone through a few months ago just after my first track session. I wonder if the once the Z is on the track, the extra heat and smaller rear pads cause the rear pads to wear faster than the front. (in normal street driving, my fronts always created more brake dust on the rims)

I WOULD NOT GET HAWK HPS for street.

Yes, they do dust less than stock but they perform like **** when cold. Stock pads have better bite/performance than Hawk HPS. Hawks perform well only when the pads heat up. Unforturnately in street condition, you don't have time for your brake pads to heat up and if your car doesn't stop when you need to, you will be in for a BIG SURPRICE . In street, you need your brake pads to bite/perform imediately because you never know what is going to pop out in front of you.

If the weather is cold, raining and/or snowing, its VERY Scary if your car does not stop.

As for people stating that they get better bite/performance with Hawk HPS than stock, I am not sure . They must use their brakes consistantly so the pads are always warm/hot

I personally like Project Mu B-Force pads or Endless Vita Nuova but they are little pricey. Some people that used PMU B-Force pads had issues with squeak. I would try Project Mu NS pads which is pad just below B-Force and tad more pricey than Hawk HPS.

Hawk HPS are less dusty then stock.

but, they lack initial bite especially when cold as stated above...

i wouldnt recomend this pad for the track either...

it is a decent street pad for no dust, but dont get all the performance...

NISMO pads are less dust, they have great initial bite even when cold and even better at track temp's... but they are more expensive...

For those with 2006 pads, unfortunatly you only have OEM pads and HAWK HPS pads available for the front as well as some other street pads...

The 350Z has a pretty well ballenced brake system, even the Non-Brembo's...

Most end up toasting the rears before the fronts when tracking the car...

Some Hawk brake pads for the 350Z...

Im sure new pads will come out soon for the 06 2 pot front calipers... the pad shape that is used is the same as the Infiniti M45 and Q45 pads... There hasnt really been much demand for a high performance pad for those in the past... eh eh

Honeslty, I have Hawk HPS pads and sure, they don't bite as hard when cold, but the posts that I keep reading imply that they are danagerous. To each his own, but I am yet to have any stopping problems with my Hawk pads, and I am almost up to 20k on them.

It seems to me that more than anything, people want to make their person preference about stopping power everyone else's issue. There is little to no brake dust from the set I have, and they stop just fine. Don't drive like an a$$ and pay attention and everything is fine. Then again, I know plenty of people that are hard brakers and wait to the last second to brake. If that is you, then I might first suggest driving lessons, but would also suggest a different pad, as you will have problems with Hawks.

That is my opinion and my opinion only. I'm sick of people getting bashed for having positive feelings about something that someone else has negative feelings about!
