From looking at a friend's STi I thought they looked to be the same.

I thought they had the same aftermarket parts numbers for pads and rotors. They should be exactly the same.

Well, Z's are four-piston front/two piston rear with I believe 12.1" calipers up front and 11.x" in the rear. What are the specs on the Evo/Sti?

Brembo® performance brake system. 4-wheel disc, ventilated front and rear. 4-channel, 4-sensor Super Sport ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) Front: 12.7 in./Rear: 12.3 in.

Yar they are slightly bigger. I believe they are both 4piston also.

Different piston sizes, different front pad shapes, different rotors, different mounting points.

Things that are the same(maybe): paint, logo, rear pad shapes

Sti vs Evo Brembos: Different piston size, paint, rotor size

Actually the Z brembos are slightly bigger.

From subaru's website the STI Brembos are:

Front - 12.7 x 1.2
Rear - 12.3 x 0.8

The Z Brembo are:

Front - 12.8 x 1.2
Rear - 12.7 x 0.87

Both have 4 piston front, 2 piston rear.

I'll clarify...

The STi front brake pads are about 20% bigger than the Z's.
The front caliper is also much beefier on the STi.
