Default Braqke rotors not turnable on this car?

Just went to Meineke for the $29.95 brake pad special (would cost a total of $80 installed) and the guy told me that i would need new rotors because the ones on my car and the Infiniti are made of composite material and not turnable. I told him my rotors didnt need turned because they are still smooth. He said that new pads would still squeak if i put them on anyway.

Does all this sound right?

Yeah i thought it sounded fishy too. I used to change brake pads on all my cars and i never turned the rotors unless they were grooved, and ive never heard of rotors that couldnt be turned unless they have already been turned so much that there wasnt much rotor left.

i got new front oem pads and they don't squeal. The rotors were fine and no need to turn them.

Yea most shops try to lure people in with low prices on the brakes. Then they add extra labor/parts on top of that price. Why dont you just change it yourself since you have the experience. Pretty straight foward with the Z. FYI: Always change the brake pad when installing a new or resurfaced rotor. The two will not mate well. But new pad on old rotor is OK.

Had my rotors turned. Although I was told that only one turn would be possible, after that I would need to replace. Not sure about that though.

Im gonna get the necessary tools this week, and next weekend, new brake pads are going on. I found a great thread on here with step-by-step instructions and photos of doing a brake pad change.

Meineke sucks!

I have never seen any rotor material which cannot be turned.

And you comment about still smooth. I recommend that the rotors be turned whenever you replace the brake pads.

Ya, I had my rotors turned once the first time I changed the pads, but the second time the shop told me they are passed the minimum width for turning.

I was shocked. I usually turn the ones on my accord atleast 2-3 times if need be.

You need to check the thickness of your rotors. I've seen Z rotors wear to their minimum thickness in 25k miles.
