I'm assuming we need to re-align the car since the toe bolts needs to be loosened in order to get the spring out?

Yes, but not because of the bolts, if you drop an extra 1/2", you'll increase your camber which will increase your toe in at the same time. If you loosen the bolts correctly, and mark their location beforehand, you should be able to tighten them back to the stock spot

redlude, that's exactly what I needed to know. BTW, did your z htechs lower evenly in the rear prior to cutting the mounts?

I cut the mounts when I installed them so I can't really answer that one. I already knew the rear was going to be too high compared to the front

Hmm, sweet; glad I finally read this thread. I think I might want to do this, since even with the Nismo suspension, my rear sits too high...

I'm really more about function, than looks, though, where suspension is concerned; will this have any negative impact for me?

mustgofastr, i'm in the boat as you. I have the nismo and feel the same way about it. I won't have a chance to do it til June since I'm off at school, but let me know how it goes if you do it before then. When I do it, i'm only planning on lowering it like .25" to try and minimize any camber problems. It seems the person that posted on this thread that did this with the Nismo kit had no problems so hopefully its the same for us.

Can somebody post some pics for the guys that are about to do it. I know there is already a DIY thread in the DIY section, but what tools did you guys use to handle the springs during the removal of the spring mount?

Blaze -- if you're asking about how to remove rear springs, there's DIY's in the TECH section and in the DIY section. You just use a jack to hold the spring up until you get the bolts out.

I did this to my Z a few months ago because the Hotchkis springs didn't drop it enough for my taste, so I shaved 1/2" off the rear bushings and it worked perfect, with no bad side affects.

so does it seem like different years have different ride hts? Seems like the 03-04 are lower, and 05-06 sits higher in the rear. I have an 03 and the ride ht was decent in the front, but the back was too high. I got Hotchkis springs that now seem to be settling too much. perhaps I go back and do this mod and put the stock springs back in?

I disproved this notion some time ago at least according to the FSMs. Ride height is listed as the same for each MY.

has anyone lowered the rear all the way down to the fender, with a 285/30/20 tire, and have any clearance problems or rubbing issues. i have an 06 w/ h&r springs and the front is real low under fender but i still have a .5 gap in rear, i would like to do this. but i dont want this small project to turn into something bigger. i know re-alignment and camber is a must .5 is alot, tires arent getting any cheaper

so i cut my spring seats, and my car only went down like a 1/4 inch. it feels like the shock is holding it from coming down more. i still have the stock shocks, any one else did this with there stock shocks.

Let it settle for a few weeks, the shocks in no ways prevent the car from coming down more. How much did you cut off exactly?
