Question Stoptech Stage 2 Stock Caliper Upgrade Kit

Kit consist of: front & rear stock sized StopTech slotted brake rotors, front and rear Axxis Ultimate brake pads, front & rear StopTech stainless steel brake lines, & 3-500mL bottles of Motul RBF600 DOT 4 synthetic brake fluid.

Those that are useing this kit please give me your feedback. I'm pretty much sold on it and will be ordering shortly (https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-nissan-350z/196240-new-toys-utec.html) but still like to hear the pluses and minuses.

Theirs is the older kit that includes the Hawk HPS pads which do not brake as well initially as the Axxis Ultimates which the new stop tech kits include...

We can put together packages with the Hawk HPS if desired and we match prices...

I'm very happy with the kit, and I've had both Axxis Ultimate pads as well as Hawk HPS. I would go with Axxis Ultimate all the way.

I think the SS lines made the biggest difference.

Be sure to bed in the system properly, or your braking will suck.

Isn't the same way when you replace your OEM pads or rotors?

Yes, I would go with the Axxis Ultimates with this package or we can mix and match with other pads as well (Endless, Project Mu, Hawk). Prices will change with the different type of pads though and like Andy said, we do have them in stock.

I was doing some more reseach about this kit on the StopTech site. I was reading about the brake pads and notice it doesn't recommend the Axxis Ultimate for road courses; http://www.stoptech.com/products/hig...nce_pads.shtml. Has anyone road race with these pads? If so any problems?

... On front engine platforms, the Ultimate is excellent for aggressive street and autocross use in the front calipers. It also works very well in the rear for applications ranging from aggressive street to moderate track use. Ultimate is NOT recommended for use on road courses in front calipers. Doing so can cause pad deposition on rotors as well as the resulting vibration. Street only. OK for club level track use in rear calipers.

Also I notice someone talking about the beeding procedure. Did a search and came up with this; http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_bedinstock.shtml. Is this what you recommend as well?

for a typical club day, the Axxis, or virtually any other pad, will work just fine. Club days and racing are not really at all similar. If you are doing full tilt track days and are not a novice, you will not want to run the Axxis or Hawk pads and instead go for something along the lines of a Ferrodo DS2500 - while still considered a club level pad, it is probably the best dual purpose (street/track) pad you can buy IMHO

As for the bedding procedure, it varies pad to pad. The typical street pad can honestly be bedded in just through normal street driving. If you want to do a really good job bedding, we recommend 2-3 sets of 4-5 stops from around 70 mph down to around 10 mph - lots of pedal but don't engage the ABS. Do not let the brakes cool between reps, only between sets. That will properly bed the pad and get enough material transferred to the rotor so that the two will play nicely together

Thanks! This is awesome info. For the once ever other month weekender tracker the Axxis will be fine. I want something that mostly provides 1) Better braking feel 2) Better braking power. Think I'm right on target with this kit than.

So for the Axxis pads you recommend the 2-3 sets of 70-10 stops?

Robert, talk to Gary about the Ultimates. At La Junta, they will fade after twelve to fifteen laps or so, and I wouldn't recommend them for our track days. Even worse at PMI. Your best bet will be to go with a dedicated track pad and use the Ultimates on the street where they belong. The EBC RedStuff Ceramic are marginally better, and David and Gary both have had good luck with Cobalt, but both will also tell you for a good time a dedicated set of pads for the track would be your best bet. Otherwise that kit looks badass and I can't wait to help you install it As far as bedding goes, the method Z1 posted is the same I have done with all my pads and works well, just remember to not come to a complete stop while doing it and don't activate the ABS. Mike Kojiima has another method as well that I use while at the track if the pads are new, but most people don't go for it. Let me know when you want to do this and I'll be happy to come on down, or you can bring it to my place, I've got a full set of tools and a nice garage to do the work in. See ya when you're back,
Will

Thanks Will!!! I was going to hit you up when I got back to get help installing everything. Looks like I'll get 2 sets of pads street and track. I've heard/read good things about the Cobalt also. Do you recommend front and rear "track" pads or just a good set of fronts?
Sidenote Will: When I get back we need to set a date where we're both off to go to Mac for some UTEC dyno tuning time!

what is a good price for installation? What part of the warranty is void when you installed the kit? (i.e. master cyclinder) Good info thus far just waiting until the first get a set.
