OK guys, just got back from my local speed shop and got a quote for the tein basic coilovers installed and an Alignment for $950. the coilovers will get here tomarrow they were ordered from tein. what do you guys think, good price?

 

$950 for installing coilovers?? thats WAY expensive. look for another shop! in my area they charge $170.

 

i think he meant including the coilovers.

If the Tein Basics cost roughly 850 bucks new, then that seems about right.

 

I got quoted $775 locally for Basics. But $950 is definately a good price including install and alignment.

 

Just a suggestion. You may want to hold off the alignment until the springs are settled.... may be take your car back to the shop in a week or so for the alignment.

anyone have camber issues with the basics? Just looking for a good cheap set of coilovers and was curious about this.

 

It all depends on how low you go.

Im thinking of a moderate drop maybe 1 to 1.5 inches. nothing insane.

 

I don't think it will be necessary, but if you want maximum tire life then you should consider it. My camber is at -1.5 front and -2.0 rear and I don't think its that bad. I just get the tires rotated side to side once during their lifetime and it works out pretty well. BTW, the max drop on the Basics in the rear is only about 1.1" and that is where mine is set to. I then just tried to match the front drop with the rear wheel gap.

 

anything over an inch drop and you'll have pretty bad toe in out back - you'll need the SPC kit to fix it. Not horrible on stock wheels (unless you have a track), but gets even more pronounced with the typical wheels we run out back (wide with low offset)

 

thanks...i wasnt sure about how much the basics fluxuated lowering wise but i'm thinking about an inch around would be good for me...just not wanting to spend a whole lot on coilovers but didnt want to get a cheap set.

 

only 1.1" in the rear??

My G35C has a 2" drop right now on Tanabe GF210s, and I wanted to at least be dropped 1.5" on the Tein Basics. Are you sure about the 1.1" max drop in the rear with the Basics?

tanabe do not drop the car close to 2 inches - they drop it an inch in front and 1.1-1.2 out back

Yeah, the site says 1.0"/1.2" drop for the 350Z. But I'm in a G35, so the drop is more like 1.5"/1.7". My car did settle a lot, as after 6 months I was unable to make it through the car wash.

In any case, I was rounding off - my rear drop is definitely well over 1.5" in the rear.

 

is there a pretty big improvement with the tein basic coils compared to stock suspension?
