Default Replaced stock Brembo pads with EBC

I replaced my stock Brembo pads with EBC Green Stuff pads to lower the dust. These things (EBC) dust like crazy. I have 7,500 miles on the car and 300 on the EBC's. Did the breakin. Any comments or ideas on why so much dust?

Thanks

What break-in are you talking about? EBC Greenstuff break in is gentle breaking for the first 300 miles.

Did you have the rotors turned when you changed the pads?

green stuff pads really have no place on a Z. They are basicly the soccer mom pads that EBC makes. You should go with Red Stuff next time. If lightly broken in as described by EBC you should have very little dust. I have run EBC for many years and have nothing but positive comments about them.

Green Stuff have an initial layer of a compound which helps the break in but is dusty. Once that is gone after a hundred or so miles they are much less dusty.

Chris,

No i didn't turn the rotors, they still look like new with no ridges or grooves. The car has 7,500 miles on it. The breakin from EBC stated to do 4-5 stops from 40 mph to 0-10mph with 1 min. in between stops. It did seem that the breakin material on the pads worked the rotors a little. I did the breakin on my way to lunch and after 10 min of driving they were some hot! Not enough to smell or smoke but much hotter than my usual driving. I'll have to drive them afew hundred more miles. Maybe it's time to stop worrying about the dust.

EBC Green Stuff sucks. I haven't tried red, but my first experience with green a few years ago turned me off to EBC, that I never used their pads again. Maybe I just had bad luck with them.

When I first tried their pads, I got the wrong pads, that were in the correct box(correct part no.). So I had to go back and exchange them for the right ones, after taking my pads out, then having to put them back and do it all over again.

Their claim of less dust is a complete lie. The green stuff dusted up 2x as fast as stocks. And back then I had white rims (which were popular at the time) so cleaning the dust all the time got to be a PITA.

Lastly, I felt zero improvement in brake performance. And the brakes SUCKED when wet or cold. I remember one night I parked my car outside my friends house, and I left at like 6am, it was cold outside, maybe in the 40's. And the car was really wet (if anyone ever parked outside before you know what I mean). Anyhow, I ran two stop signs cuz the brakes simpley did not even work.

Also, the pads lasted a very short time in comparison to my stocks. I don't remember exact mileage, cuz it was a long time ago. I just remember I had to change them very quickly after I got them. This was all on a '99 Honda Civic Si, if that matters.

Anyhow, I have Project MU B-Force pads on my Brembos right now, both front and rear, and I could not be happier with them. I think I changed my stock fronts at like 15k and my rears just after 20k. Right now I'm at 35k and the rears look brand new almost still, so much meat left in them, and the fronts still also have a long way to go. Initial bite is very strong as well.

I've had Green stuff on my car (brembo) for about 25,000 miles and haven't had a lick of trouble with them. They bite great and the dust is pretty much non-existant. The only complaint I have is that every once in a while they will squeal. Nothing too bad though.

If you did not turn the rotors, expect them to take about 500 miles to completely bed, not only are you running on the bed in coating on the pad but you are also scraping off stock pad material that is embedded in the rotor. The best thing to do whenever changing brakes is to turn the rotors to get a nice fresh surface. Most places only charge 5-10 bucks a rotor and it can mean the difference between a good bed in and a squeaky or chattery brakes.

I could swear the last 2 sets of Greenstuffs I have gotten (one for the Z the other for my 72 Mini) said light braking for the first 300 miles on a card in the box. Neither car has any dust issues. For reference, I was getting black wheels after two days to work and back, now I can go two weeks and only have a slight gray dust.

As for pad compatibility with the Z, Greenstuff are fine for street Zs, the basic rule of thumb on them is, if you don't overheat the stock pads, they will work well, as they are better than stock, but still not race pads. If you overheat the stocks, move on to Redstuff or Yellowstuff.

Here is the chart

Next I want to try Yellowstuffs

Good advice. I always resurface my rotors when changing pads. Good chart too, looks like Yellowstuff are some good pads! I would imagine they would be too aggressive for the stock rotors?

Isn't that green EBC stuff crap?

I'd never buy the pad that's primarily known for less dust only(fashion over function)...

Used EBC Green Stuff on a diferent car and they were okay on the dust but took a lot more pressure to stop. Also seemed to be hard on the rotors.
