Default brake kit question

Hello, Im gonna ask some stupid questions I know, but I'd rather be safe than sorry when I purchase parts now.

I'm considering a brake upgrade from my stock, I have the none Brembo 2003 6MT.

I do some tracking events but now a whole lot, maybe 3 times in the summer. I only go for fun and not for competition. So i don't want to spend a whole lot of money for my break mods.

I was looking at the "AP Racing 4-Piston Front Big Brake 1-Piece Rotor" from Intense motorsports. I know that 1 piece construction is not as good as the 2 piece construction, but the question is, do I really need a 2 piece rotor kit if I only weekend drive and do some light tracking?

If I go with this 1 piece rotor kit, can i upgrade to 2 piece rotor later??

I have aftermarket Work Emotion CR-Kai rims, the size is as follows:

18×8.5JJ+25(MT) 18×9.5JJ+30(DT)

How big of a kit can this size accommodate?

Any other alterantive suggestions?

Thanks, any helpful inputs will be appreciated.

I run the AP 4 pot 13" front and rear with 18" LMGT4s. With this setup and SS braided lines and a quality brake fluid this kit will be perfect for your needs. I originally wanted the 6 piston fronts, but came to my senses and realized they were/are overkill for a daily driver and occasional track, autocross and weekend jaunts. If you are building a show car then maybe, but honestly it's not worth the extra 1k unless you want the look. I can say with total confidence that I've never had any brake fade what-so-ever. I go into corners very deep with lots of late braking and never had any issues. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Rick

P.S. if you want some pics of the brakes/wheels let me know.

The AP Racing 4 Pot system would be great for you. It will offer a lot more fade resistance than your stockers. The 1 piece rotor is fine also. You should be able to upgrade to the 2 piece rotor kit later if you desire with no problems.

I have no idea about them fitting with those wheels though. You can look online and if they will clear the Brembo models than you should be fine.

You will need to go online and get a template for the brake kit you are buying, download the pic. trace it on a peice of card board, remove 1 wheel and check for back space clearence. It's not as hard as it sounds. Call whom you are buying it from, they may can download it to you. You can also go to classifieds, I seen numerous brake kits there including factory brembo set up for the Z.

To be honest if you are only going to track your car a few times a year then your stockers will be fine. I have run god knows how many laps at sebring, homestead and moroso on the stock calipers. I upgraded to brembo rotors, track pads, motul fluid and thats it. The car brakes great and has not been an issue as of yet. If you are going to track for competition then I would say go for it. If its just for fun then it's really not necessary. Some people may object but I am speaking from experience. Good pads, clean fluids good rotors and you will be just fine. I was going to upgrade my calipers after my rotors are toast. Everyone told me that the brembo rotors wont last more then a few track days, well I am still running on them and they havent had any problems yet. As soon as I need rotors then i will upgrade but so far so good.

When you switched to motul did you flush the old fluid, also was it Dot 3,4,or 5? My car is 3 yrs. old and I'm **** about maintanance. Should the Z B-fluid be changed.{33,000}.

Default It depends

If you are changing the brake fluid you want to bleed all the old fluid out. I use motul 600. If you are going to track your car a few bucks on fluids can go a long way. Tracking puts a lot of stress on the cars components. I bleed the fluid and and replace before every time i track it. Just good insurance. Brake fluid has a tendency to absorb water so for a the few bucks it costs its worth it so that you dont have a brake failure on the track. If you are not going to track your car, id say it wouldnt hurt every 15,000 to 20,000 miles or so. Chime in if im wrong.

that kit will fit fine..I used that kit with my original Emotions (18x8.5 +30 were the original front size I used)

there is no 2 piece rotor option for this kit...but you won't need one either

thnx guys for all the great inputs...I purchased the AP 4 piston 2 piece kit from a shop Im familar with here in Toronto at around 2800 CDN tax in and installed. Comes with 13 inch rotors, brakes lines, Ferrodo pads and brake fluids and its in stock, getting it in two days.

Reason for this is I figured importing brake kits into Canada from US would probably cost me around that price too...with frieght, customs and taxes.

You guys think its a good deal?

it's actually quite expensive, though that is because the AP dealer for Canada is quite expensive vs the US dealers.

Just as comparison, we would be $1965 shipped to Canada for that same kit (around $2250 CAD). Install is a simple affair - takes 1.5 hours

Is that price including shipping, tax and duty?? For the 2 piece rotor, with AP 4 piston kit, brake lines, Ferrodo brake lines and fluid? If you can confirm that's all I have to pay when it gets to me, then I might just order from you then...

It includes shipping yes. tax and duty are your responsibility - I have no idea how much that costs, as that is controlled by Canada, so you would need to consult your taxing authority.

AP does not make a 2 piece rotor with 4 piston caliper. The 2 piece rotor is only offered for sale with the 6 piston caliper. It includes pads, lines, fluid and everything needed to install it on your car
