Steering rack ratio - how to make steering quicker
Hey, I was wondering if there is any way to increase the steering rack ratio or however you refer to it, essentially i want to quicken my steering, as in less steering wheel rotatoin for the same wheel angle, can't seem to find anything on this, anyone have any ideas or a clue as to how to change the gearing on the steering rack or how to quicken the steering ie. less turning same angle ?

Though I like the idea of the steering ratio being quicker, doing so will just increase the onset of out pacing the power steering system itself.

However the ones without the active steering have a 15.9 : 1 steering ratio. You kno its funny cuz the more i find out bout these cars the more it seems infiniti just keeps toning them down and making them more of a gentleman's car year by year...oh well (refering to the ratio being slower for 06's) .
Outpacing the power steering as in, quick left and rights where the system cannot provide assist as quickly as I ask for and I'm having to muscle the wheel at times.
I'm going off of infinitihelp.com, what is your source that the 03-05 car's have a quicker ratio and they slowed it for 06?

I've got an 06 with active steering and I wish I could disable it. At low speeds it feels great but at really high speeds it feels like the car is understeering badly. It does not inspire confidence.

i'm not sure about the G35s, but for the Zs, supposedly one of the major upgrades to the 06's is the active steering thing that basically means you turn the wheel further to turn at low speeds, but turn it less at higher speeds (or maybe the other way around? lol...) either way, it is speed based steering from what i understand.

There are already a few Z's with steering quickener's... some of the shops that install them in SoCal include:
Mckinney Motorsport
Jasper Performance
etc..
I tried one of McKinney's cars (S13) and it's weird but a lot of rally/pro drivers swear by these. I believe Tanners AEM 350Z has on too

It's the other way around. It scared the $hit out of me the first time it happened. I've gotten somewhat used to it but I still don't like it.

Since 1990, Q have had variable pressure assist based on speed...........a wonderful thing from 30 mph to 112 mph [upward slope] there is a 0>50% stiffening [force required].........so people [inexperienced] can take their hands off wheel and light a cig or drink a beer or make a cell call or change a diper and not suddenly jerk the car uncontrolably back when hands return to wheel.
Not sure about G but 9 pounds of force required to turn wheel at 60 mph on Q.........based on correct tires, inflation and alignment.......use a spring scale to measure and adjust.
This is set by adjusting pinion gear preload per FSM.
ATF [PS] fluid varies viscosity with temperature you can fine tune your PS by selecting a synthetic high temp ATF racing type ATF or a blend to get almost any viscosity you want at any temperature.
Don't confuse cold high force during ATF warm up to 176F especially in winter with problems............the system assumes you have waited for proper warm up.
