Cheapest way to lower the car?
Now really looking to race it hardcore, so i think i'll pass on the coilovers. So what springs should i get, how much would they cost, and by how much would they lower? Also, is cutting stock springs a bad idea? I know you guys are gonna laugh, but are there any particular reasons why this shouldn't be done.. aside from the fact that its ghetto?
Seriously though, the dirt cheapest way is to cut the springs... no cost to you, just a seriously f'd suspension, which would actually cost you in the long run. So I take that back, that's actually kinda expensive since your car will be bouncy, the handling will be whale-like, and the struts will be shot.
The cheapest way is to do the job right the first time, meaning buy some drop springs whose spring rates match the stock struts- this is the cheapest way. A set of Hotchkis springs is super cheap, and matches the stock struts nicely. You can save on installation by doing it yourself.
I'll throw in 1 more thing... that comment I made about gaining weight and finding a fat chick to drop the car... don't take this seriously... cause you shouldn't... you can actually get super fan on the cheaps at McDonalds and ordering off the $1 menu. I was just thinking about it cause I just had a McChicken. Hell, you can have 2 apple pies, a double cheesburger, side salad (not too much calories here though), etc... all on the cheaps. That should be more than enough calories to offset the zero calorie complementary water that should save more moolah. Here in Hawaii, we have so many overweight FAMILIES it's ridiculous. Watching a bomber suddenly rise several inches as the family steps out always brings a smile to my face.

"I pity the foo who cuts their springs" (in my best Mr. T voice). cutting or heating your springs are the absolute dumbest way to lower your car. if you can't at least afford a pair of used $100 drop springs (tein s-techs, hotchkis, etc) then please sell your Z.
depends what you want. if you just want a subtle (<1") drop then go with the tein's or hotchkis. I'd recommend the hotchkis since they drop the rear evenly vs the tein's which leave the rear a bit higher. or if you want something more aggresive go with the tanabe 210's. however you'll probably need to get a camber kit with the tanabe's since the drop is a bit more agressive (I'd recommend spc). if you're mechanically incline then just rent a springs compressor and have a friend help you install them, if not then it shouldn't cost more than $150 to pay someone to do it.

- 150 or less used
- 150-200 for installation
- Depends but like I said, less then one inch is ideal so you can keep alignment within specs.
