Default Rotor Removal

I have an 03 Track with the brembo brake system i am trying to remove the rotors to get them resurfaced. Can anybody tell me how to remove these rotors, a friend of mine just told me to wack them with a rubber mallet but thats not working. Can anybody help?

Make sure that the parking brake is disengaged (on the rears, that is).

the rubber mallet technique is the best...strike it right in the middle and it'll work its way loose..oh and some wd-40 for 20 minutes over the studs helps out...

The front ones will come off pretty easy. The rears are really tight. It's nice to loose the parking brake bolt a little, which makes it easier to take the rear discs of. Don't forget to adjust the parking brake again though when everything is installed again.

I'm assuming you already removed the caliper? They should just come right off.

Once you remove the caliper, the rotors should come right off.

there's a threaded hole on the rotor that you can use to pop it off, simply thread a screw (make sure it's the correct size and pitch) into the hole and keep turning until the rotor pops off!

Can you show a photo of a rotor with a hole in it? When you thread a bolt into the hole, what does the end of the bolt press against? Thanks.

a. Spray front and back of rotor with penetrating spray. Let sit for 10 minutes.

b. Front rotor: you can turn the steering wheel to give you room to swing a mallet (big hammer). Use a 1x4 to protect the rotor.

I posted this a little while ago here @ post #5:

"You need to loosen the parking brake shoes. There is a little rubber plug on your rotor. Align this plug so it is at 11 or 12 o'clock. Then remove the plug. Now, with a flathead screwdriver, you need to turn the adjuster to loosen the parking brake shoes. If you do this, the rotor will come off freely just as the fronts. I see too many threads of people pounding away, when that is totally unnecessary and probably damages your parking brake system and rotors. The FSM is your friend:

Once you have replaced your rotor or completed whatever work you are doing, you need to re-adjust the parking brake. From the FSM:

Cheers"
