how long does stock brake last?
i haven't gone tracking but i live in the city so i may use my brakes but i went to get an oil change today at nissan and they told me my brakes were needing to be replaced...
ONLY AFTER 18K miles!!!!!!! WTF?!!?!?!? he told me i need to change out my rotors and pads. hmmmmm why does nissan brakes SUCK ***?!?!?! iono. that's why i'm asking you guys.
should i just change the pad or both?

Rip off, buy a jack (stock ones suck) brake pads, research how to change them on here, and change them yourself. I changed my own brakes, didnt take long, and will never have anybody change my brakes again. I spent $90 on brake pads and was quoted over $400 at the dealer. Anyhow, whatever you do I would bet you don't need rotors, just another way to get money out of you. Goodluck!
19k miles on the same pads are not outrageous, just depends how hard you brake.

Yeah dude. By those above items, plus a few sockets $15, a wrench, and a torque wrench $20. By gloves $5, a face mask $3for dust, brake cleaner $3, and stock brake pads ($44 at my nismo) and you are set. Easy dude. Look to see if the rotors are scored, are they even? Look up on google regarding "turning rotors" and you will find many including me do not turn the rotors each time the pads are changed.

Stock brake pads were chosen to WIN the multi magazine comparison braking test game....the best cold stopping brakes win regardless of wear rate.
Same with tires and rotor................component wear is just an expected maintenance expense.............roughly equal to the cost of gasoline.
What amazes most is wear is just a function of driving style and location - Applications per mile driven..........why some get 15k and some 40k.

Either way, what the Dealer charger is a ripoff. Do it yourself, save mula, and get the satisfaction of a job well done.

If one bothers to read the fine print disclaimers in the new LS460, there is a line WARNING that high perfromance brakes will wear faster than conventional brakes and will require FREQUENT CUSTOMER PAID inspection and service and that the pads may last less than 20,000 miles and the rotor may last less the 50,000 miles.
Don't forget that when you bring your car in for service, they check brakes and other items not because they are nice, but because they want to change them for you. Make sure that you really need new brakes before changing them...
I had another car in for a recall and they told me my brakes had only 20% left. I think that's what they tell all their customers. I took off the wheels and measured. My calculations came up to 50-60% left...
