The stiffness of the damper. So if its adjustable, you can make it harder or softer. Non-adjustable is the same all the time.

A shocks dampening is expressed as slow and fast rebound [expansion] and slow and fast compression rates..................also these change with internal temperature of the fluid and anti foaming Nitrogen pressure.

pounds [or metric] vs speed of movement over a standard distance [1.0 foot or 0.3 meters per second]

Since shocks typically have only a +- <3.5" total movement range you must multiply the stiffness by ~~4x

Dampening force is how wet you get in the rain.

Damping force is the force the damper has to resist the motion of the spring.

Since the natural frequency runs 1-1.5 Hz [1second-0.66 seconds] ................the time is as critcal as the resisting force.

If you don't stop the oscillation at the natural frequency you get under or overshoot.............this the term under or over damped.
