Default how to remove top strut bolt

Just thought I'd share a way to remove the top nut that holds the spring onto the strut. (I had forgotten that the springs were still attached to the front struts until a few hours before someone was going to buy the springs...so I didn't have time to buy an inpact wrench)

What I ended up doing was drilling 3 holes in to a peice of 10X2 wood, and then drilling out the center. that way I could hold the strut inplace and then get the nut off.

here's the pics:

Resourceful but a little dangerous.

dangerous? I'm wondering if you're thinking that the springs could be dangerous b/c the OE springs would be compressed - I had the hotckis springs on, and knew that a spring compressor wasn't needed.

Why didn't you just hold the shaft with a spanner, it's flattened to allow you do do this, then with another spanner take off the top nut?.....much faster and much easier.

what's a 'spanner'? I couldn't find another way to get a good grip on the strut - I was also limited to the tools that I had in my garage ... maybe that means I should buy more tools (every time I tell this to my wife, i get )
