Does anyone know if the DIY spring install for the G35c is the same as our 350Z? I think it is, but was just hoping someone could tell me for sure. Also how long do you think this would take to do?
Thanks
Thanks
For DIY purposes, they are the same. You do have to undo the strut tower bar in the Z IIRC, something no G has oem. Install time for me isn't a race, honestly I take my time.
Yes, it is exactly the same, minus the strut bar.
I replaced my shocks/springs yesterday. After I was done, I went to see a buddy who was getting new tires mounted on his G35C. It was on the lift with wheels off so I did a quick walkthrough of the procedures I followed on my Z to see if any differences exist. I didn’t notice any, as both the front and rear shock/spring assemblies look identical to my Z.
Very easy job on the rear, as you just lower the spring perch (which is separate from the shock in the rear) and pull out the old spring and insert the new. Then you use a floor jack to align all the bolt holes and torque to spec. First time this will be a 30 min job/side.
For the fronts, I followed this tutorial (https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....highlight=koni) and it worked perfectly. First you remove the lower end link nut and end link bolt. Then unbolt the lower shock bolt. Then remove the upper A-arm bolt. NOTE: this is where this tutorial differs from the one for the G35 in that link above – the G35 tutorial doesn’t mention removing the A-arm bolt to aid in removing the strut/spring assembly – let me tell you, removing this bolt makes it MUCH easier! The only downside is that you need to get some new cotter pins. Cheap price for the added ease of removal if you ask me. Anyway, all you do then is remove the speed sensor line and brake line and mess with the shock/spring assy until it comes out. First time around this will take about 1 hour/side taking your time. I have read of people taking four hours just removing the front assy, so I would allot some time depending on your skill/comfort level.
Once you have the shock/spring assembly out, the procedure to remove the spring from the shock is the same for the Z/G. The tutorial above has some good pointers. The shocks/springs I installed on the fronts were already mounted together, so I cant comment on ease on installation (although again, I have read that this part is a major PITA without power tools – on account of removing the bolt that secures the shock to the upper shock mount).

That write up is a lot user friendly. Yeah taking the cotter pin out and removing the nut seems to make it much easier from the pictures. I'm going to do the install today, and I'll tell yall how it goes.

Alright, I got the springs on that night, and the look is awsome. The ride quality did not get any worse either, it feels exactly like my stock setup. So the next thing for suspension will probably be the sway bars.
