From one who sells hundreds of Wilwood calipers a year and many dozens of brake kits...I can tell you that this arguement is a moot point.
I run my own Wilwood calipers in some of the most dusty conditions (Pikes Peak and other mtn roads) that far exceed that of most any street car. And I do little to "rebuild twice a year" my calipers. In fact in selling BBKs for over 14yrs I've seldom sold seal kits to customers with kits younger than perhaps 5-7yrs.
I'll grant you, if you live in the salt belt of the USA and you do little or no maintenance on your car and in short run it into the ground...you may find that running without boots and the pads to the backing plates then ramming the contaminated pistons back into the aluminum body that you may find your abusing the system.
Other than that foolishness booted or non booted is of little or no concern to the average user.
