Question Opinions about Brake Horsepower XPS pads?

Hey guys,

I saw the BHP (Brake Horsepower) XPS pads listed on Stoptech's website and have been curious about them for some time. http://www.stoptech.com/products/hig...nce_pads.shtml

It almost sounds too good to be true. Supposedly it is for both street/daily driving and "light to medium duty track use." I searched, but had no luck finding any opinions about this pad on the forums and haven't heard anything about it anywhere else. I've thought about calling Stoptech and asking them about it, but I'd like to get some independent opinions from guys who have actually used this pad.

Does anybody know about this pad or have any experience with it? Good or bad? Also, how is the rotor wear and dusting compared to the other street pads?

The XPS pads are only available in select pad shapes and none of the stock 350Z calipers are supported. The only way you will be able to use these pads on your Z is if you have one of our 4 piston big brake kits installed.

Thanks. I knew that. I'm planning to get your 14" 4-wheel/4-piston kit as part of my build project (someday) and was curious how these pads compare to the others.

Can you tell me how rotor wear and dusting is compared to others like Axxis Ultimate and Hawk pads?

Rotor wear with the XPS will be similar to the Axxis ULT as well as the amount of dust produced. The XPS offers some improvements in initial bite over ULT along with a higher maximum operating temperature by a few hundred degrees which can allow them to be run more aggressively and even handle moderate track use. If you are a seasoned track driver or a running on dedicated track tires, I would recommend sticking with the ULTs for the street and using a better pad for track days like Hawk HT10 which are only slightly more expensive than the XPS.

I've heard a lot of good things about these pads, Audi guys love them for track. Unfortunately, BHP stopped making these pads and a lot of people are buying them up in bulk. I managed to track down a supplier who still has sets left. Comar Performance. These aren't the same ones that Stoptech sells, but they are a direct fit and same friction material. They just utilize a different wear sensor, but guys with Stoptech ST40 BBK shouldn't matter because we don't use a wear sensor at all.

I can't wait to try these next week at Willow. If you guys want some, contact Peter@Comar and tell him you talked to Daniel.

Here is some info:

The BHP XPS compound brake pad was designed specifically for dual use,
street and track. The majority of our customers use this pad for street
use and track day type race track use. So, yes the pad is very good for
both street and track use with the same pad. The coefficient of friction
is between 0.46-0.50 as the pad has a G-G rating for hot and cold
friction. The MOT is approximately 1100 deg F.
