Default Lip on brake rotors

I havent been on here in a while. Anyway my Z has a lip on the brake rotors with only 11,600 miles and the car is 1 yr and a half. I went do the dealership to get them checked out and they said its normal . Then the dealership said it wasn't covered under warranty. I called the head nissan office and they helped alot. Next week i'll be getting new rotors and new pads for free. Im just trying to alert you all about this if you don't already know.

It's a sports car with soft rotors and hard non ceramic pads, it's what all sports car rotors look like after driving them around hard.

hey lw3, I have the same problem and the dealership told me it wasnt covered. Do you remember who you called and the number to get in touch with them? I was thinkin about getting some slotted rotors and new pads but if I can get them for free then I would rather do that. Thanks

The lip is not only normal, it is not even an indicator of a worn out part.

It occurs because the pads don't cover the entire rotor surface. The section that is not touched by the pads just does not wear down causing a lip.

If you have them checked and they are thicker than the minimum, there is no need to replace them.

I had this problem with my 03, but the rotors were also very thin. I replaced them with some EBC rotors and pads. The pads went quick and the rotors make a lot of noise. I'm not sure I would go in that direction again. (they work great btw)

Agree. The best way to figure out if the rotors are serviceable is to measure them. A digital micrometer is about $100. Very worthwhile tool.
