Installed the EBS slotted/dimpled brake rotors along with EBC Red Stuff brake pads, they stop amazingly well and grab tight plus look good doing it

a day later whenever im slowing down in speeds of less than 10 mph the rear brakes seem to make a very loud screeching sound, its deafeningly loud.

is it because im using new pads and rotors and needs breaking in?
or is it because I needed to machine the rotors before installing them?

 

I have the exact same set-up as you do. But, mine never made the screeching sound you are describing. Maybe you did not brake in your pads correctly? Or the rears need new shims. Mine only makes the swooshing noise. You do not need to resurface the EBC rotors. And I believe you can not resurface them at all. EBC came out with a new design that is suppose to stop the swooshing noise.

 

I just put on the Hawk HPS with Powerslots last weekend, they were noisey at first...do you know how to bed in your pads? You should do some hard braking from 60 mph and then speed up again and then do it again and then do some regular breaking and repeat a couple times. Don't engage ABS though.

Its next to impossible to get rear brakes to the necessary operating temperature for proper bedding. Just give then some time.

 

Mine still make the swooshing noise after over 6 months. I contacted EBC and still have not received a response. IMO, look into different rotors. Mine are still pretty loud after 10k miles.

 

my rotors make that swooshing sound as well but very lightly, the screeching gets to me in traffic and I end up with a headache after a while if im stuck on traffic.

guess I will wait for them to be broken in.. see what happens.

PS. what is bedding???

 

Actually the rear rotor temperature and the front are pretty equal from a panic stop if not you have changed the brake bias by selecting pads with different friction vs temp and application speed.

Always good to test with IR gun to optimize temperature.

 

How many miles are you guys getting out of the EBC red stuff pads. I've had mine for a little over 10k miles on the EBC rotors. They are starting to make a bunch of noise. I drive mostly in town, bunch of stopping, and recently started auto crossing. I'm thinking about going to the Green Stuff, and possible SS brake lines. I like to track, but I'd rather save money.

 

FYI...my el cheapo two week old drill/slotted R1concept rotors make absolutely no noise whatsoever, could there be something wrong?

 

I would say that if you are having a lot of noise from your brakes, you may need to put shims behind the pads. I replaced my front OEM rotors with Racing Brake slotted rotors and have been using EBC pads. I bought Redstuff pads for a track day last fall. Since I figure that percentage wise, most of your braking is done by the fronts, I left the stock rear rotors and have been using the best pads I can get from Autozone or Advance Auto on the rear. I bedded the pads and had no abnormal noise from them. I toasted the pads F&R in one day at the track. I was not really impressed with the Redstuff pads. I got a set of Yellowstuff pads for a track day last month, and thought that they felt much better. I did install braided lines, front and rear, before the track day this year, and that was a great improvement in my brake feel. I am non-Brembo by the way. I have never had any issues with brake noise so far. I have not checked the pads since the track day to see what condition they were in, but I always put on a new set before any track day. My brake feel was very good early in the day, but by the last session, I don't think I was stopping quite as well. But, that may be because I was driving faster and braking later. But I never did have any problems making the turns.

 

So slipangle, are you running Yellowstuff all the way around or still mixed? Do they dust?

Nothix, if you have already tried the Redstuff, you wont like the Greenstuff, they are softer and after the Reds it will feel like you need to bleed them some more. I went from Green to Red and wont go back to the Greens. I don't know how quick your pads are going but on the plus side, the redstuff seem easy on the rotors, so perhaps they will be good for a few sets of pads as they cost more anyway.

I am running Yellowstuff on the front only. Bendix on the rear. The Yellows dust more than the Reds, but I don't really care about the dust. When I hit the brakes, I want to stop. If I wasn't doing track days, I would probably stick with the Reds. I have not used any other brands, so I can't comment on those. I may try other pads if some are highly recommended. Even with the mixed pads, I like the brake feel.
