Default Clunking noise coming from JIC Coilovers

Is it normal for JIC Coilovers to make a clunking noise. The coilovers are great, handles awesome, but has a clunking noise that comes out of them. Is this normal? Lots of guys I've talked to said that it is, but some say it's not. Anybody really know the true answer.

Default retighten all the bolts

from what I've read and heard, the clunking noise is due to a loose nut or bolt. It may not appear to be loose but there is slack somewhere as to cause something to shift ever so slightly. I have just ordered a set. Can you give some pointers to make the install go easier and what settings are you using.

Yes, it might be what he said. I had the same problem on my flex. All you have to do is tighten the bolt, or it will have too much play.

The install was easy. I haven't set the suspension up yet. Still trying to figure out if the clunking is normal. Checked all the bolts, it's in there really tight.

Hi. I have a Track Pack with JIC FLT-A2. When I move my Z backward and do the braking, some noise can be heard.
I was told that this is normal because the Track Pack's Brembo does not come with a metal plate (not sure where that plate located).

I have the JiC FLT-A2's and they clunk when I go in and out of driveways and sometimes over small but high bumps. I'm going to ask my mechanic if this is normal, but they handle great until my RE-040's give up(which happens in no time)

Hi, for those with JIC coils, did you have to drill a hole on your rear strut to get the to adjusting ****? or we have to do that with all of the adjustable set ups like JIC and Tein?

Yes, my mechanic drilled holes in the rear strut tower in order for me to access the rear JIC adjustments

Alright guys, here's the scoop. Talked to Tein yesterday at the SEMA show in L.A. It is normal. He said that the struts sits right on aluminum to metal, which amplifies the sound when you drive. There's abosolutely nothing wrong with the JIC suspension. Tein suprised me by telling me that the JIC suspension was better for performance than theres. Tein's set up is for more daily driving, than performance. He did tell me that even the Tein's set up also makes noise.

funny .... I too was at SEMA Vegas and talked to them about which TIEN or JIC was better for autocrossing. They told me Tien which is what I would expect them to say. I also asked about noise and they said their flex was not as noisey as the JIC ???

Since the company I work for is getting me a great deal on the TIEN .......... I was going with them anyway!

Tein are pretty notorious for their noise on the 350's. I've noticed if I clean the pillow ball the noise seems to go away for 1-2 months but then comes back. I'm a little disappointed to here that the JIC make the same noise since I was planning on replacing my Flex with the FLT-A2's.

I also spoke to Tein at SEMA and they acknowledged the noise. I also heard a rumor that they had redesigned the Flex setup to reduce the noise but couldn't verify this.

For autocrossing or tracking the JIC are a better setup since they are monotube design whereas the Tein are double tube.

What the first Tein rep said is true. If you notice, the sound is coming from where the strut mount makes contact with the body of the car. I even tried to install the OEM cardstock-like spacer, and the noise was still there. I've simply grown accustomed to it as a trade-off of having a better suspension. Function over form...
