what is the difference between "progressive" and "linear" springs? Which one is better?

There is no "better" do some research on the subject yourself and find out the differences and the pros and cons for each setup

I'll save you trouble of searching.

Progressive - Spring rate changes as you put load on it. For example, when you corner, the more you push on the side of the car during the corner, the harder the springs get. Initial spring rate is without load on the springs and final spring rate is the max spring rate when under load.

Linear - Kind of self explanatory. Spring rate stays the same under all condition.

Applications: Progressive is good for street as it can absorb bumps and whatnot. Linear is firmer and better designed for track/auto-x.

I have these now:
Espelir 350Z progressive springs Drop .4"/.4"
Spring rates in LBS 386/515 (softer initial rates are unknown)
But I have yet to put them on. Waiting for my motor build and TT to be done.

Tanabe GF210 have got to be the most popular springs for the Z that Ive seen so far. I actually might swap the Tein S.tech for those once I get my camber/toe kit installed and alignment done in the fall.

the bigger diameter spring is for the front or the rear?
also, I just bought some tanabe GF210. It comes with a groove attached right in the middle of the each spring. Anyone knows what it is for?

No. For a 1" drop that is actually smoother and softer you'll need other or different parts.

I'll take it that drop height is more important then performance? For performance sake I'd take S-tech's over GF210's. You can purchase Tokico springs seperately btw.

The bigger or wider diameter springs are the rears.

Groove right in the middle of each spring? Can you take some pics that show what your talking about?

I had my mechanic installed the spring already.
there's a piece of plastic that wraps around 2 layers of the spring and each spring has it. I ended up using the stock and leave them there.

So, should I go with Eibach Pro springs or GF210s? I've never taken and don't plan on taking the car to the track so I would guess Eibach's are the way to go? Correct?

I can't find a dealer or vendor that will sell the Tokico springs seperately.

because tokico does not offer them separately, they only offer the struts or struts and springs as a package

some vendors might choose to sell the springs alone but tokico themselves do not offer it that way
