i, personally, will never buy coilovers unless I track race the car.
Around town, ill stick to lowering springs and use the other 1500 towards some rims.

So you're telling me that you already have a thread asking this question. The search police told you to search. Now you have started another thread asking the same thing, even mention the searching, and you still thought it was a good idea to start a new thread.
This subject has been worn out so many times. Don't be too lazy to do your own research

Let me try to break it down to you so you understand.
DON'T CHEAP OUT ON SUSPENSION MODS!!!
if you want blown shocks, go ahead with just the tanabe gf210 springs. They get very very rough after a couple of weeks usage. Shocks will blow very quickly depending no your roads. This is the cheap way to do it.
If you get coilovers, you have springs that go with the shocks at any height you adjust the coilovers to. Coilovers can blow as well if you just slam it on the lowest settings.
do it right or dont' do it at all. If you do it wrong, be aware of what might happen if you do and don't be surprised.

a little further breakdown too:
With JUST lowering springs on your vehicle you will run the chance of premature wear on the shock... reason being is that the stock shocks in your vehicle are designed to properly work at the set height; once you alter that height,, you will be causing damage to the shock due to increased prolonged compression... If you dont want to go with a full coilover system,, then you will at least have to replace the shocks as well with ones that are designed for a lowered vehicle (ie. tokico, kyb,, etc. - just make sure that it's noted that they can be used with "altered height").... Consequences to not replacing the shocks will unclude: possible cracked bump stops and other rubber suspension bushings,, decreased lifespan of shocks,, bumpier ride,, possible loss in handling over time...

There are lots of people here more than willing to help, but it's a 2 way street. Take 20 minutes, search for the same threads written just in the last 30-60 days, and you'll be able to make an informed decision, or at least ask a more informed question - and you'll end up with specific information.
Making posts with 'drop it like its hot', and 'confusion', is not going to get you taken seriously by anyone, and will just bring on negative post after negative post, and people calling for you getting banned permenantly.

has anyone ever owned another car besides the Z however?
this fact is true with every single car from civics to porsches.
However, many people dont see the "shock prematuring" in reality even though it does happen. Sure it shorts a couple miles maybe. You have to buy new shocks on down the road anyhow.
Many.. many.. many people in the entire world just buy lowering springs. then wait your 30,000 miles or whatever it is, and buy new shocks.
not everyone wastes money on coilovers to have their 1.5" drop.
