Ordering rims n tires, looking for middle-of-the-road suspension advice
I'm ordering my wheels this week, they are going to be 18x9.5 +20 all around with 245/35 and 275/35 tires. I want to do the lowering at the same time. Not looking for the cheapest nor the most expensive way to go, somewhere in the middle. Any suggestions on how far to drop and who to buy would be appreciated.
Also, is it hard to do a Z yourself? I've done a Honda and an Escort many years ago and they werent too bad, can I expect the same?
Thanks for any info

Hey, first off I would run 245/40/18 and 275/40/18... You are going to be adding a larger gap by running a lower profile then recommended...
For the suspension... Do you want springs or coilovers?
Here is some middle of the road suspension choices....
You could do Tanabe GF210 springs with a 1.2/1.0 drop for $200
Tokico Struts for around $500-$600 Struts
= $800
or
Apexi EXV coilovers for = $1,200
Tein Basics Coilovers = $800
BC Racing Coilovers = $1,000
As for doing it yourself, if you have changed suspension before and know what your doing then its not too hard... I would recommend having someone there to help if you can.
As for the drop you want... Do you want it slammed or low but with a clearance over the tire?
Most people drop the Z 1-1.5 inches you can use this as a rule of thumb.. Many threads on here if you search to see what the car looks like at certain heights.

drop .7“.6“ (fronts are slightly progressive, rears are linear)
Spring rates in LBS 386/402 (estimated front intial rate is 327lbs)
Eibach Pro-kit with Tokico D-specs
Drop 1”/1”
Spring rates in LBS initial/final front 296/384 initial/final rear 316/421
Cannot recommend any coilover setup without knowing more specific informantion about what you want out of the suspension. Best advise is to avoid lost cost solution's where the unknowing will be buying into poor dampning control coupled to too much spring stiffness. Buying used to get quality that actually deliverys would not be a bad idea or expand your budget.

+1 for Gsedan35 on the recommendations.
The tire sizes look fine, I am fairly certain that is the Nismo recommended sizes for their 18" wheel set. They do run an 8.5 +25 up front with that recommendation though. The gap should be similar to stock. I guess with a 9.5 +20 you are hoping for a little stretch.

Like others have said. You need 2 decide if you want springs or coil overs. If you plan on doing auto x or tracking the car then go coil overs if not springs are your best bet. After that do a search to see pics of the Z with different springs. I remembers seeing a thread that had all the different pics.

Each 1.00" of body drop usually increases negative camber by -0.83 degrees.
When you purchase wheels have them balance tested to make sure they meet oem specs without tires..................no more than 5 grams per side imbalance! The question with low cost wheels is how long they will stay in balance if they ever were?
