Default Break Question on BBKs

Ok here goes, I知 sure I値l get flamed for being a n00b but sometimes you just have to break down and ask the questions.

I知 looking at buying my first Z in July, and 08 and hopefully the new San Marino Blue, and I知 trying to figure out a few things first. I can稚 decided between the Grand Touring vs. the Touring. The only difference I can really find between the two is the Brembo breaks so here are my questions.

1. Are the OEM Brembo a BBK?
2. Would it be cheaper to get the Touring and upgrade to a BBK?
3. If I upgrade the calipers, pads, and routers, would I also need to upgrade the lines and or anything else?

I知 not a gear head but I知 damn sure going to learn how to turn the wrench on this baby when I get it so I知 not afraid of doing the work myself, but I want to make sure I get what I want and need and not a bunch of stuff I don稚. Thanks for any advice and info you guys (and girls) and provide.

1. You could say that...
2. A decent aftermarket BBK will run you +3,500. Do the math on which would be a better deal. Also remember you'll have greater options with an aftermarket BBK
3. What you've described here is a BBK upgrade. The packages come with new lines...

1. Yes in that they are bigger than the OEM non-brembos
2. BBK can run you anywhere from $2K(front only) to $8K(all 4 wheels), so it all depends
3. Changing out to SS brake lines will help with the "mushy feeling" but won't help w/ the fade if you plan to do any tracking or spirited mountain runs. And, if you're gonna go through the trouble of changing out everything else, you might as well.

Or you can wait till someone w/ the Brembo's buys an aftermarket BBK and buy their OEM Brembo kit. They go for around $1500-$2000. Are you wanting the Brembo/BBK for looks or you plan on road racing the car? If its for looks than I'd save the cash that an aftermarket BBK cost and get the Brembo's via another member. If you plan on racing I'd invest in an aftermarket BBK ($1500-$4k), StopTech, Endless, Rotora, etc... None the less... Get the Touring. LOL

Okay, I have to take a coffee break at work to answer this one . . .

The rotors from '06+ non-Brembo brakes are almost the same size as the OEM Brembo rotors, and definitely much larger than the '03-'05 non-Brembo rotors.

If you're buying the Z just as a daily driver and no track usage, get the model with the non-Brembo brakes. If you like the additional features of the higher models and plan to lightly track your Z, get the model with the Brembo brakes. If you plan on highly modifying & tracking your Z, get a Base or Enthusiast model with the non-Brembo brakes and install a BBK.
