Default Broken Caliper Bolt

Hey guys -

While trying to remove my caliper, to replace the brake pads, I also broke the bolt that attaches the caliper to the rotor... It was extremely tough to get off, but after some work I thought I had succeeded... Came to find out I broke the bolt.

Does anybody know where I can get a replacement? Would the dealership have one to purchase?? Should i just abandon all efforts for trying to replace my own pads and just take the car to the dealership? How safe is it to drive with the caliper not firmly attached?

I wouldn't drive the car without both bolts holding the caliper into place. And yes you can order them from the dealership - should take them a couple of days to get them - also get some grease for the new bolt.

Naw - they're just stock calipers. Looks like the dealership might have a few bolts in stock... guess I'll pick one up tonight. Any advice on how to loosen up the remaining bolts without chopping them in half? I had to resort to putting the wrench about it, then wacking the wrench with a hammer. Even that didn't seem to loosen it up until the bolt broke in half.

Thanks for all the help guys - I used the penetrating oil like was recommended, and got the replacement bolt. Everything came off lickity split. It was a good learning experience, especially for the next time I have to do it.

Appreciate all the help from you guys!
