Nismo S-Tune on Roadster = Not in warranty???
Hey all, first off, yes I searched. Couldn't find anything on this subject. I did see quite a few roadsters with S-Tune suspension that loved it, but my question is not about if it works or fits or how well it works.
My main priority with upgrading my 08 suspension is staying in warranty. This may have some people saying "then don't mod", but the whole nismo doesn't void factory warranty is appealing to me. I called and got a quote on the setup and talked to a shop here in town about installing it. After the dealership looked it up (I told them I had an 08 Roadster), the guy at the shop PM'd me and said it would not keep me in warranty according to Nissan. I called the dealership back and was told it will work, but is only suggested for the coupes with no VDC, and if I install it on my roadster, I am voiding the warranty.
Does anyone have any information that says otherwise? This is a real letdown for me. I could obviously install comparable or better products for less money, but with 110 miles on my car, letting go of the warranty is not something I want to do.
Feedback would be welcome.

nismo s tune parts do not void warranty. the dealer tried to sell me a nismo exhaust, intake and suspension when i brought my car in last year. they even said if i bought it from them and had it installed there, it'd be under warranty, no problems.

I guess I am just being stupidly cautious and could fight it if and when anything ever happened warranty wise, but I just don't want to fight the shoulder bone is connected to the arm bone is connected to the elbow BS that I have seen happen with warranty's where aftermarket wheels can be blamed for oil consumption (and yes, thats a highly exagerated example). I will call nissan north america and find out what they say and report back.
Thanks for the reply and sorry for the rant.
I seen that before.
For some reason the S-tune setup is not for VDC setups on 350z.
not sure why, I think the setup killes the VDC.

The parts have a specific 'Usage' column and it says "Coupe - No VDC". I don't mean this as a dispute on what your saying, but if my dealership is saying its not covered under warranty, I need proof from nissan that s-tune nismo suspension will not void the 08 Roadster man. warranty.

"Nissan even stands behind all street-legal S-tune components with the full Nissan Parts and Accessories Limited Warranty; good up to 36months/36,000 miles when installed by a Nissan dealer at the time of purchase. Remaining time period/miles of new vehicle warranty aplies to parts when installed by dealer on existing customer vehicles." Notice what they are talking about is how the Nismo product carries a warranty, one who's length is tied to the deration of the new car warranty.
Nismo's comment's on VDC equipped vehicles has zip zero to do with warranty coverage, it is a legalize warning that has nothing to do with the warranty, but is about protecting them concerning how the vehicle performs. Read the following from Nismo
"Warning: Nismo shock and spring kit AND Front and Rear Sway bar Kit AND Sheels can be used on VDC-equipped vehicles ONLY if ALL are installed together. Failure to install all required parts on VDC-equipped models may result in the system {VDC} not operating properly and could adversely effect vehicle handling performance."
The joke I see in the above (besides the whole warning thing) is that the sway bars in that kit, the same one's sold seperately from Nismo are almost the same as the sway's 04.5+ car's are all delivered with (not talking about Nismo T2 adjustable sways of course).
Just for clarification, I do not have VDC as I bought a Touring Roadster. I care more about the Coupe vs Roadster part of it. Anyway, thanks for answering. I think it boils down to the fact that if I was to install it and if something went wrong with suspension, I would have to fight to get manufacturer to honor warranty, not nismo. Its just not worth it. Wonder if aftermarket wheels void any warranty... it all seems lame.
So I just finished talking with both the dealership and nissan north america, nobody gave me a definate yes or no. In fact, after getting to the supervisor at NNA, I got a very specific "generally, genuine nismo parts do not void the warranty"... I said, "Generally??", and got a, sorry, we don't have the ability to 100 percent confirm this, but we haven't had any issues with warranty being affected by Nismo parts. There was no info on Nismo S-Tune suspension on a roadster at all from NNA... so the service manager at the dealership upon hearing that said he didn't see any problem with it. The only thing I did hear was that if I had installed the parts when I bought the car, they would have warranty for 3/36.

All that said, parts only void warranties if they are shown to cause the issue, and, obviously Nissan will not warranty parts they did not make. That is the law.
So for springs, you might have trouble getting service for a poor or rough ride. They may even show that your tire wear and worn out shocks are your problem but they are not going to turn you away for things unrelated to the springs.
As an example, I know someone who had a popcharger and plenum spacer and had no trouble having his motor replaced for oil consumption because those parts did not contribute to the problem.
There is always a risk in modding, and the further you take it the more responsible you become for your cars reliability. So just make sure you always mod responsibly.
