Default Advice on new rotors.

Hey guys, I am new to the forums and about to purchase a used 350Z. I just took it to the mechanic shop to have it checked out to make sure there were no major problems with it. Everything was good except the front brakes and rotors, (says the MIDAS mechanic). I was just wondering if theres anyway i can tell for my self if the rotors need to be replaced. I inspected them and didn't see any grooves or anything on them. The brakes do need to be replaced i can see that much. Just wondering if its something i can see for my self instead of taking this guys advice. He is saying it will cost about $700 for the new pads and rotors for the front, i am guessing thats the total for installation as well. The car has 34k miles on it and its a 2004. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

hmm i didnt own my Z long enough to notice when to replace original rotors, depends on how the car was drivin; if it was 34k city miles stop and go all day every day then it may need rotors. if you don't feel any vibration in the steering wheel when your braking downhill then they aren't super worn. Just look at then and put your finger on the edge of the rotor and feel if theirs and lip too( do it when the car is cold so u dont burn ur finger)
