Default rear springs

I have an 03 touring and today i was looking under my car and noticed that the rear springs had some sort of rubber spacer in the coils. are they supposed to be there?

In the coils or at the top of the coils. You are probably just looking at the normal top mount.

so if they are in the middle of the coil then they should not be there. when i used to work at a honda dealership the s2000 had something like these so they could get on and off the truck but they were removed when doing the new car inspection. was this something that was overlooked? i just got the car in march. they are not on the front only the back. there are two rectangular chunks of rubber per spring about halfway thru the windings is the best way to describe it. thank you for your help.

edit. by middle i don't mean center, i mean in the actual winding part of the spring between coils.

No, it does not sound like they should be there- probably left over from shipping. The rear spring sits on top of a plastic-reinforced rubber spring mount that you probably can not see with the naked eye. There should not be anything between that and the spring mount at the top.

Wow. I guess the next question is going to be.. 'Would having this block in the middle of the coil for 5 years going to cause any damage?' good luck!

well i ripped them out today. i'm hoping that maybe they were put in to move the car from whatever auction the car was probably at before the dealer got it. in that case they have only been in for 4 months and 2k miles. i don't live far from work but nothing looks or feels abnormal so far but being as this is my first Z that may not mean much. thank you everyone for your help.
