thx Jeff your answer seems more reasonable...but are u sure? i have them on the bottom now and mechanic might charge me for re-installing them....where can i get a an official solid answer to this?

so is that mean i should have the perch AND the rubber mounts on top?? or perch on top and rubber mounts on the bottom?

thx

i tried JIC but they haven't reply me yet....

I have had the JICs for about 5K mi; they were installed by Avalon (Hi Paul) who are GREAT to deal with. BUT...they rattle like crazy; I'm almost to the point of taking them off because I can't stand my baby sounding like a '68 Dodge pickup clanking down the road!

Then how do you mount the spring perch at the top? If you use the stock lower rubber mount, the perch will sit flush. But on the top, there is nowhere to mount the perch. I'd really like to see the photos of how you installed it. True, you have to lower the LCA to adjust it, but that doesn't take more than 2 minutes. I spent some time yesterday cornerweighting my car, and it took me a total of 6 minutes to remove the wheel, spring and perch assembly, adjust the perch, and reinstall.

I first had the perch at the bottom and they rattled like crazy. That is what JIC's web page shows. JIC told me to drill through the aluminum lower arm on the car into the perch and bolt them together. I thought they were nuts, the perch didn't even sit straight because of the spiral in the lower arm.

With the perch at the top no rattles, easier to adjust, and fits and sits the way Nissan engineers designed it to.

Here is a picture of the JIC spring with the stock rubber boot attached:

A picture showing the spring and stock rubber boot in lower control arm: This boot is the stock boot in the factory location.

A picture of the modified top boot. This is the factory rubber boot that is cone shaped. The cone is cut off which leaves an ABS hole in the center. I 2.5" long piece of 2" ABS and rubber boot was forced into the stock hole and plastic welded with ABS cement.

This rubber mount is the factory mount (without the cone) in the factory location that is secured with three clips that are part of the vehicle:

Good modification to the boots. The OEM lower rubber perch should be used with the JIC setup to eliminate the rattle. I see you have the progressive rate springs in the rear, which have a larger coil diameter than mine, and the perch is larger than mine as well.

John, the springs I have are the same outer diameter as the stock springs so the OEM lower rubber perch fit perfectly on the spring making this an ideal way to mount them.

I did have the JIC perch mounted on the bottom with the OEM lower rubber perch as JIC suggested, but since both the OEM rubber perch and the lower arm are spiraled to accept the spring the JIC perch won't sit straight. This in itself caused some rattles do to the spring being loaded unevenly. I would also suspect that the handling would be deteriorated because of that condition.

You mentioned that your perch is smaller in diameter. Does your perch still have a flat bottom? How did you compensate for the spiral to get the perch to sit flat without rocking?

Also my spring inner diameter was smaller than stock so they would not fit over the OEM rubber cones. It sounds like your springs are even smaller in diameter? How do they mount on the top? Is there any metal-to-metal contact other than the JIC perch to spring?

I initially had the progressive setup, and it did fit over the upper rubber cone, but it was a tight fit. I'll try and take some photos of my setup later, but mine does fit flush on the bottom...

Spring perches are on the bottom, using the stock lower rubber mount underneath, and the JIC o-ring mount on top. There is a slight rattle, but I don't think it's the springs, rather pillowball mount as Tein owners have made similar complaints.

i have the JIC rubber o-ring on top too but it gets dislocated all the time and i suspect that's where the rattle noise came from

so is that mean the oem top rubber mount won't fit into our LINEAR springs?
also how much can u lower the car with these thick rubber mounts installed? my spring perch is already at it's lowest position but the fender is only level with the wheel
