Unhappy Coilovers vs Lowering Springs

I recently had a performance shop tell me, if I'm going to lower my 07 it would be better to go with springs. He said coilovers would do the job, but with a lot of noise (pops, pings, rattles, etc...). I know the cons of going with springs ( premature shock wear, etc...). It seems like a lot of people in this Z forum go with springs at first, but a big percentage of them switch over to coilovers eventually. I do not track, this is my DD, and I'm pretty conservative with my driving style. I would like to go with the coils, but if they are that noisy, I don't know! Can I get you guys that have coils to weigh in? Thanks.

maybe they are selling the wrong coilovers

some will make some noises, it really depends on their overall construction and what components they keep vs replace. That being said, the only coilovers I've ever experienced that literally made popping noises were ones that were blown

Do you need coilovers? Definitely not. Overkill for alot of people IMHO. However, they do provide flexibility, and significantly more adjustability than your average spring/shock combo. Alot of it obviously comes down to budget as well. The price point of many of the street oriented units out there is also quite fair when compared with some springs/shock combos

depends on the budget man. for the street shocks and springs are fine, but if your getting near the track or want to have the best possible handling go with coils. I have agency power prototype coils and they are fine. i have no noise as well.

Well lets think theoretically here for a second...if you buy springs, a good proper set will cost you anywhere from $300-$500. Now you are right springs do wear down the shocks quite a bit, so then you will end up spending money on replacing those. And you are definitely gonna want to go aftermarket, like Bilstein or Koni which will cost you around $800 -$1000. So you will end up spending anywhere from $1100-$1500.

For that kind of money you can get a good Coilover set like Bilstein PSS, Tein CS, Stance GR+, HKS, Nismo-G....whatever your preference...and you will save yourself a lot of headaches. Plus with coilover kits you can adjust the height and the majority can adjust the damping.
