Default Coilovers less than $1000. Teins Basic vs. BC Racing

Buying coilovers for street driving. What I want is really just to slam my ride and still have a decently comfortable ride. My budget is only $1000 because I don't need something that performs AMAZING....just something that will lower my car more than springs/shocks and give me some more fun when i take turns around the city.

So I've did a lot of searching and it seems like the concensus is BC Racing. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong? And if that's the case, what would you recommend for less than $1000?

Thanks!!

Also consider the Tanabe Sustec PRO S-OCs. I've had them on my G before which I drive everyday. The ride wasn't jarring, but it was still slightly firm. I sold them cause I thought I was selling the car, but now that I'm not, I'm going right back to Tanabe!!!!

Yah I've also seriously considered Megan Racing. In fact, I'm leaning towards either Megans or BC Racing now and I'm torn between the two!!!

How much do stance coilovers cost?

the stance will run you around 1200 for the 16kg front and 14kg rear, keep in mind tho that those are monotube, which will be a much better ride than the twin tube megans or tein basics. not sure if the BC racing are twin tube or monotube..

The 896/784 setup should not be brought up given his stated needs Stance makes a product that is targeted to what he say's he wants.

http://stance-usa.com/sus/products/c...40#LX+Plus-top

Megan colovers for the 350Z are monotube and should be avoided at all costs, has NOTHING to do with the name, everything to do with the actual product.

BcRacing are monotube, except the new DA ER series which are a twin tube design (likely to control costs,....sigh )

When they say the word "slam", a setup that drops using spring preload isn't a very good idea, he should only consider a system that uses full height adjustablity.

First you have to be honest with yourself and decide what is more important - ride height, or ride quality. Be prepared to make compromises on each to get a truly dialed in setup. Also consider that your tire choice has a tremendous amount to do with overall ride quality. A tire with a very stiff sidewall is going to behave increasingly worse in the ride quality department the lower you make the car and the stiffer you spring the car.

Monotubes do not ride better than twin tubes by their mere existance. They are different means towards the same end..producing a shock. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages, but the fact of the matter is that on a $1000 coilover, there is no advantage of one vs the other.

Does yours $1k budget include the camber arms you WILL NEED when slamming your car. Other than that , no matter what you get, ride quality will suck slammed

Tanabe PRO S-OC coilover's don't have full height adjustablity, so yes I am saying he should not get them. Same goes for Basics. Anything without full height adjustability.

Yeah, but then again... some coilovers feel like ***. I've ridden in cars with Megan and BC, and they feel like crap compared to Tanabes. I'd take S-0C's any day compared to body adjustable coilovers made where? ... Exactly, even I don't know -- probably China or Taiwan or Somalia etc.

Back when I was looking into wheels, I saw https://my350z.com/forum/370z-wheels...hotoshoot.html so I gave SSR a call and they said the car was on the cheapest Tanabe S-0C coilovers. I know it's a 370z and not a 350z, but that's a pretty decent drop I think.

Why not spend a little more, and just get the Sustec Pro 5s?

Those seem like a much better track coilover from Tanabe less than the 7s. TEAS Compatibility is nicer too.

I trust the tanabe quality A LOT more than the "other" stuff.

A Tanabe Pro 5 can't masquerade as a track coilover on any day of the week - and when you factor in the TEAS, it's 2 x what his budget is

Being able to adjust low when you have no bump travel to speak of, does mean their will be no price to pay in ride quality terms. Again, when members here talk about wanting to slam their car, they are better off avoiding setups that adjust height via spring preload.

Another product that I'd love to see a independent dyno done, twin tube and slide valve spells suspect to me.

You don't need the TEAS to make the Pro 5 work.

Retail is like $10XX something. I am sure it can be had cheaper. And who said they were "track coilovers"? They are street coilovers just like every other _________ brand $1000 coilover. There IS A HUGE difference between a $1000 dollar coilover and a $2000-$3000 dollar coilover.

If the guy wanted a REAL race coilover with the adjustability of such, 90% of the japanese coilovers or any chinese coilover would NOT be on his list.

If you want to talk about "track" coilovers, there are the Pro 7s, and there are plenty of go fast cars using those coilovers including cars in the USA and Japan. I am saying this because you brought it up, not me.

At least with Tanabes you won't be like the poor guy on ClubLegacy who had his megans explode when he went over a pothole. Real great quality right thurrr.
