Ok, well i'm wanting to get some new rotors for my z. I would like to get a whole big brake kit but really don't feel like dishing out so much money right now. So, this might sound stupid but i have never upgraded brakes!

I want a 14 inch rotor that comes with the big brake kits but will i be able to use them with a non-brembo caliper...i'm thinking...no? If this doesn't work does anyone have any other solutions. I don't want to upgrade to a oem sized rotor when in the future i plan on completing the kit with upgraded calipers and brake lines. Any ideas welcomed, thanks.

 

i would recommend to just save up and get a complete big brake kit.

The position of the brake caliper is fixed. Think about it.

 

Racing Brake has a kit that moves the caliper out to fit a 13.1 inch rotor. You just may need to contact them to see if you can just purchase one of their 6 or 4 piston calipers at a later and bolt it up to their supplied brackets.

Thanks everyone for the input. Silverjdmcoupe i will go to that site and email or call them and see what they say. I guess this question was harder than i though 258 views and 4 responses,lol. I agree with everyone that i should do it right the first time and that is what i usually would do.

My rotors are getting kind of thin so im needing to replace them just don't really have the cash for the front and rear big brake kit at this time and don't have time to keep saving. I like to have plenty of cash in the bank account before i make a purchase of this amount. Again, thanks everyone.

 

silverjdmcoupe: Ok, yes checked it out with them and yes it is possible. You are the damn man thanks i really appreciate it, man.

 

STOP! Don't do the extended OEM caliper thing - the rotors are the same thickness (thinness!) as stock - = NO INCREASE IN FADE RESISTANCE

waste of $600...

the main reason the oem brembos are better than stock is really because of the bigger [thicker!] rotors! = more heat capacity [granted they also have better pad size, are lighter and look way better too!]

$825 is the bargain of bbks - uses brembo sized rotor and has aluminum 4 pot caliper - wilwood has good pad choice and this should be a good option for all but the longest of track days [no matching rear kit however!]

used brembos are also a great idea ~$1200 [if can be found]

not sure on your car year but used 06 up calipers / rotors are bigger / better than the older stock ones also

you can do the akebonos 1 axle at a time to spread the cost out [fronts first!]

& compared to 3500 to 7500 for stoptech / ap racing / endless kits you'll be saving $


Summing up - No, no way to do an upgrade bit by bit, each caliper can only fit a narrow range of rotor sizes & the oem extended caliper deal is no deal - even if you later pay for their calipers it's still on a thin rotor with no performance gain
