Default Anyone who has VDC using H&R coilovers or any type of coilovers?

Hey guys, I guess this is a noob question and I wasn't able to find my answer from searching so sorry if this is a repeat.

I have a 2004.5 track edition and looking to get a set of coilovers. I was looking into H&R street performance coilovers and it didn't say anything if it is compatible with VDC. I called up H&R and they have no idea and told me to search on the Z forums.

Well hope someone can answer my question. thanks!

This issues comes up from time to time because of what people read from Nissan. It is related to the S-tune suspension. Go ahead and modify your car as you see fit. Your far better off making sure your buying quality parts that actually delivery what they promise to meet your needs then you should be spending time and effort on worrying about VDC issues.

Warning: "Nismo shock and spring kit AND Front and Rear Sway bar Kit AND Sheels can be used on VDC-equipped vehicles ONLY if ALL are installed together. Failure to install all required parts on VDC-equipped models may result in the system {VDC} not operating properly and could adversely effect vehicle handling performance."

Actually, Nissan does have a disclaimer on a number of parts they sell for the Z regarding the incompatability of those parts and cars with VDC. It's basically a cover-your-*** move for Nissan. The parts and VDC in most cases work fine but if you wreck your car, you won't be able to blame the failure of VDC on Nissan. VDC is designed to work with the OEM setup, difference wheels, tires and suspension MAY affect the way that VDC works.

hmm, ic thanks for that info.

I just want a stiffer ride with more control than stock so I would figure go with coilovers than with springs. I will be putting on the greddy twins later this year.

So if i do purchase these H&R street performance coilovers, I can just unplug the vdc wire so there is no vdc? Would the vdc light stay on and do you guys think it would cause any other problems? Thanks

do you really need to unplug it? I have no problems with mine at all and has kicked in a few times on the track.

Don't you have a button called VDC that allows you to turn the system off whenever your driving the car?

It's not that the products don't with with VDC, it's the other way around. VDC may not work properly with non-OEM components on the car.

VDC is designed and calibrated to the OEM suspension, wheels, tires, etc. Once you start changing those components, you POTENTIALLY change the handling characteristics of the car. VDC may not understand the results of those changes and may activate or not activate as it should.

Oye vey

I have run the following setups

oem suspension
^added oem unrevised 350Z springs
^added oem revised 350Z springs
oem suspension with 350Z H-techs
2003 oem 350Z suspension
^added cusco sway bars
Koni sport shocks
^add 448lbs Tein tapered front springs 427lbs revised rear springs
^short time test on revised oem 350Z rear shocks
^add 560lbs front springs same 427lbs springs
^sway bar change to Hotchkis front and 350EVO rear bar
^Tokico linear drop springs
Truechoice Phase IV coilovers with 560/427 spring rates
^650lbs front springs short term test
Bilstein Pss9
^short time test front sway bar to full stiff, then back to med
^add 448lbs front springs
Bilstein Pss9 revalve 1 resprung with 560/500 springs
Bilstein Pss9 revallve 2 same springs as above
Bilstein Pss9 revalve 2 448lbs rear springs (testing linear spring conversion parts)
Bilstein Pss9 revalve 2 427lbs revised rear springs
And I'm sure I'm forgetting several others.

Out of all those setups, the only one that caused the VDC to engage prematurely, to be a over eager kill joy, was with the Pss9 revalve 1 setup. It did nothing dangerious, it would kick in way too soon without real cause. Pushing the botton, solved the problem.

Find another vendor or a more knowledgeable sales person that know's what he is doing. But help yourself and don't bring up the issue because it isn't one.
