Bump, I'm also looking for a DIY on Coilover Installation

 

Just look for the spring install, mostly the same concept. It should be easier because you dont have to worry about taking the spring off the shock.

 

Will be exactly the same as spring/damper install, minus setting the final ride height.

There will be other differences, such as front strut components reused (front rubber upper spring seat, strut top mount, etc), and whether it uses a true coilover config in the rear. These are minor differences though, and can be tackled without the need for a coilover specific DIY.

 

I'm sure most will say use the SEARCH function, but I'll try to be helpful since I'm in the process of installing my coils. Here are some links that I've found very helpful...

I've installed a set before, a DIY would just be to double check...

I swear people on this forum become bigger and bigger a holes by the day

 

imo its like a spring installation... possibly even easier.

 

Install isn't too bad, just have a friend handy to help out. Also take your time and have some patience (or a couple of beers haha)! You'll definately get a better sense of satisfaction knowing you did it yourself than having some shop do it.

Would any one Know how to install the rear Dampener extensions.

 

They're a waste IMO. I just drilled holes in the rear strut brace last night. Worked like a charm

 

Just a few tips OP...
Some spring install threads on here claimed you needed to unbolt either the upper or lower arm from the spindle in order to get the front coilover in or out.
Just turn the wheel left or right a bit and the curved section gets out of the way very nicely
Install is very straightforward. You probably will want to disconnect the sway bar to get more travel. Otherwise, everything bolts in like factory.

Agreed. This is a valid post and I'm surprised myself we don't have one. Always good to double check tools needed, get tips from others, etc.

Everyone wants to act like they are ASE certified when really they've maybe done 1 or 2 in their life.

 

its pretty basic and straightforward. All you need are the right tools and some elbow grease. Its pretty hard to mess it up unless you really dont know what you're doing. Good luck!

 

OK i'll do the DIY

front
1. jack car and removed wheels
2. removed stock strut bar
3. unbolt swaybar from LCA
4. pop UCA off steering knuckle
5. removed strut assembly.
6. reverse order

Rear
1. Jack/wheels
2. unbolt shock
3. unbolt spring bucket arm at kuckle, remove spring
4. reverse the order while installing the new shiny parts

Once installed, have fun setting ride height.

 

I did it the other day and just as I assumed, it's very straight-forward!

Very basic. The hardest part is removing the front strut assembly (gotta maneuver that $hit around!!!)
