My guess is this is just incremental improvement. Car manufacturers always tweak things between model years. Bigger, well balanced brakes are almost always better.

To the OP, list your entire setup and we may be able to tell you what is wrong. Include the following info:

1. pads - type and age
2. rotors - type and age
3. fluid - age
4. tires - type

To give a point of reference, I just swapped out my rotors for slotted stop techs and I've been using metal matrix pads for some time now. my 03 stops extremely well. Planning to do my fluid in a week or two. Your Z should be stopping well. If it isn't, something isn't right and if you post the info, we can help you figure it out.

i have a question concerning my stock brakes

when i stop suddenly, and very hard (maybe when going around 30mph+) i feel a vibration in the brake pedal, it feels almost like im feeling the ground through the pedal

is this known as brake judder? What causes this?

Probably your anti-lock brakes... can you hear it a bit too?

Can you recognize when your ABS engages? Just trying to gauge your level of experience with brakes.

As mentioned before, it could be your ABS engaging which feels more like a pulsation in the pedal along with some noise coming from either the front or rear, depending on which side engaged ABS. If it is not ABS, you probably have deposits on your rotors that cause the vibration when you push them a little harder. You can try and re-bed the rotors to clean them off and see if this fixes your problem. StopTech's procedure:

Turn off the VDC/TSC do you get the same results? If not it's the ABS kicking in.

If it does could be warped rotor or bad caliper.

I was thinking the same thing. Only reason I upgraded to the OEM brembos was because I was planning on abusing them more often then the base brakes.

is there a noticable difference when going from the standard OEM brakes to the OEM Brembo setup with SS lines on a 05 touring?

no im pretty sure its not my ABS. I know what ABS engaging sounds like. you can hear slight noise and there is a "hum" on the brake

whats happening to me is when im driving along 30-40mph and lets say for example, I need to do a sudden stop because some lady's dog runs out into the street lol. What i would then experience is a somewhat hard shaking on the brake pedal. not a faint vibration, but there is definite movement/shaking on my brake pedal

and yeah ill try that bedding procedure see if it helps

what if they are my calipers? What's the procedure i should follow if this is the case? If its the rotors i know I can just buy new rotors but if its the calipers would I just have to purchase a completely new brake system (can you just buy new calipers?)

You can purchase new calipers, in many different formats. Buy OEM PARTS!!!! Personally I reccomend replacing your calipers in pairs at the very least. It's not always required, but, keeps your brake system balanced in my opinion, and it beats having to do the same thing a few months down the road if the other one starts to go out too. There's plenty of vendors here, and over my last two Z's I've ordered all my OEM parts through Courtesy Nissan. Good prices and nice diagrams, not to mention the staff is a ton better than any of the local dealerships where I'm from.

Is this just the way the car is? Or is something wrong with mine?

BTW: The emergency brake on my car doesnt work all that well either. It's been this way since I purchased the car. Can this be fixed or adjusted somehow?
I have an 03 touring and my brakes work fine. The car is autox and tracked with no problems. Running Carbotech pads, amsoil brake fluid, stainless lines, and R1 concept rotors. Soon to be adding brake ducts and they are the non-brembo's. I added speed bleeders and they make changing fluid a breeze.

What do you mean by "added speed bleeders"?

Got them through Jegs, best price I could find. Makes bleeding your brakes very easy and a one man job.

Because the same base brakes on the G35 were inadequate. In MY2005, the G35 lost the optional Brembo brakes and received the new updated dual piston caliper base brakes with larger rotors.

The G35 needed them in 2005. It's also probably cheaper to offer the same brakes as base on the Z, than it is to manufacture both.

uh the 06's most definitely weigh 175+ more than the 03-05 and are .2 inches longer.

???
Really?
I've heard of a few pounds here and there, but has anyone ever confirmed that between the two cars? 175 pounds is quite a bit of weight gain for really no major changes The bumper is redesigned but I didn't think it was any longer...

i have to disagree on every level. the Z lineage has always been plagued with one constant problem throughout the generations; their brakes. just my 2 cents
