Default Question regarding Coilover installation - Not in DIY

I checked our DIY section for a coilover installation guide, but could not find one. I think the install process is pretty straight forward so I should be alright. But I did have one question:

Do we need to use spring compressors when removing the front or rear springs? I think the front comes out completely with the shock assembly so no compressor should be needed. What about the back?

Thanks!

If you're doing coilovers, you shouldn't need a spring compressor Front shock/spring combo is completely replaced and the rear springs can be removed w/o a compressor since they just come out after lowering one side of each lower a-arm.

I would also get one just in case from Autozone since they offer free rentals.

Yes spring compressors are needed for the front if the coilover they are going to install reuses the rubber mounts...ex: kw variants, bilstein pss's

So which COs did you decide on? Hopefully you'll have it ready in time for the next autox! We had one 350z in each session while I was there. We could have used more though!

hey scott,

Well I was looking for some entry level coilovers, possibly the BC Racing or Stance LX, but by chance, ran across some very cheap H&R. From the few reviews, they seem to be alright so I decided to give them a try. I've used H&R on my previous Audi, so I'm already a fan of the brand. We'll see how they work out.

Did you do well at last week's session? I'll definitely try to make it next month.

Last month I did a bit better than my marina run. (Never went off course ) I kept a consistent decrease in time. Shredded the heck out of my street tires though. I actually have divots in the tire. I think my driving style is a bit harsh. I'm getting a lot of wheel spin and tire screech. Doesnt feel as finesse, as the other veteran drivers...

I'll practice to have a bit more flow through the course, possibly even reduce tire wear while keeping runtimes low.

Hey John!
Do you not get the results distribution? They were sent yesterday. I didn't do as well overall as I have been doing since I borrowed a friend's Z that doesn't have any suspension mods. I did manage to win in the B class though, so that was good. There is a good battle going on in your class, E, for first place. Z vs S2k!

I'd be happy to ride with you next month if you make it out to see if there is something in your driving causing the chatter you described. Maybe it's something simple like tire pressure, or maybe your street tires are just pooh!
