Default Brake Help, upgrade fronts, what to do with the rears?

Well, i had a set of stock brembos all lined up and got screwed out of them. So here i am a week before a track event with no brakes.

heres my thoughts, go with the AP big brake 4 piston fronts, and then just do a slotted rotor rear, stillen or other. And just upgrade to some hawk pads.

Would this work, i drive VERY hard at the track and destroyed my rear brakes, the pads dont last more than a day at the track, and the dust seals have melted. I am also using Motul 600 fluid.

HELP! THOUGHTS?

I think once you go with the BBK up front, the rears will see a little less action and therefore last longer. With a more aggressive pad up front, the fronts will handle more of the braking duty. The larger rotor and caliper wil dissipate heat faster.

You can put the slotted rear rotor, but that will wear out your rear pads faster. The slots have a tendency to slice off a little bit of pad material when you apply the brakes.

Hope that helps.

I am under the impression that with larger rotors up front, combined with a more agressive pad, you will be running much higher rear rotor temperatures as a result. The front will be able to withstand much higher temps before fade sets in, and the stock size rear rotors will be overwhelmed by the higher temps, leading to the possibility of cracking rotors and cooked pads. I mention this because it is exactly what hepened to me in my last car when I went to an agressive track pad. Since the brakes were able to get much hotter than before, the smaller rears couldnt cope, and I noticed the formation of many tiny stress cracks forming throughout the rear rotors. Remember that before I went to the track pads, the fronts would begin to fade at, say 600 degrees (just grabbing arbitrary numbers). After the track pads were put on, they wouldnt fade until 800 degrees. Now, the tiny rear rotors are hotter than they were effectivly desinged for, and they cracked under the stress. Be careful and watch for this.

I had Stoptech's 332x32 front kit on my Audi A4. I used the OEM rear brakes. I used Porterfield R4 pads front and rear at the track. I also had installed stainless lines on the rear brakes and flushed with ATE Superblue fluid. At the track, I used R-compound tires. Never once did my rear brakes suffer any overheating.

If the brake kit is balanced to the car... that is, the front caliper piston sizes are matched to the OEM master cylinder volume and the rear caliper sizes... then the big brake kit should not cause any overheating issues.

Now... the Z may have inherent problems with the rear brakes on the non-Brembo rear brakes. If that's the case, then there's probably not a lot you can do.

Hope that helps,
