I have a bunch of OEM [or even NISMO although I think they're too high (and also progressive)] rear springs I could use. What do y'all think is ideal? Was thinking 455lbs/in from my KW Clubsports, but am open to order as well.
I would probably try the 455's you already have, or maybe order a matching 562ish rate for the rear.

Default ST Coilovers Speedtech X Coilover Kit? made by kw

I have been looking every where for strut and spring options and tried to stay on the 655 price point but i'm just not sure about the tein basis doesn't seem like many people like them or have used them. I was going to go with the normal hp with s tech springs but I hate spending on stuff that's not going to last. I found this kit for 850 and ksport kontrol pro and wondering if z owners have used them. I like the fact that st is made by kw. I can't find spring rates ont these. Ksport uses 12k front and 7k rear and not sure if that's a good thing or not. Really im looking for a 15-25 % better than stock setup. Not looking for any thing crazy like tein mono flex or $1500 plus kits.

what changes on the handling when company move the spring to the shock and remove it from the stock location on the rear?

Default Daily Driver Struts & Shocks

I've been reviewing the info on the posts[Suspension 101] concerning suspension upgrades, but not many reviews or suggestions on aftermarket replacements, for those of us who just Love our Z's as DD.
I've seen Monroe's mentioned in one article, but see that they are not listed by Monroe as direct replacements . Has nayone actually installed them to see how they perform ?
Even though it's my DD I don't want to install something cheap, but also was looking to spend less than $700.
Bilstein & Koni seem to get good reviews, just pricy
Tokico HP's not so good in reviews
I'm not looking to lower it nor does it go to the track.

Appreciate any feedback !

if your looking for a cheap way to lower your car, just cut your springs. the ride quality will be the same.

Either that or get some racelands. Better quality parts and smoother ride than oem

I have bc racing coilovers and they are great. I have the extreme drop coilovers and they are very smooth and absorb imperfections in the road quite well. The car is also dropped pretty low with an aggressive setup. I had tanabae springs with stock shocks before this setup and the car was a lot rougher.

Did I just read that someone is advocating *cutting springs* and it'll be OK (inferring no changes but the ride height)??

Oh lawdy....

Default pillowball mounts w/struts ?

I have been looking for a while now but have not been able to find any info. Is anyone running pillowball mounts with there strut shock combo. Origionally i was going to go coilover but budget messed it up, plus plenty of members recommended factory setup over the coilovers unless getting hi end. I would like to get rid of the excess rubber bushing flex. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I installed a set of Monroes on my truck once. Damping was only marginally better than blown tired OEM shocks, the housings rusted quickly (matter of months), especially for FL, and I feel they loosened up very quickly (within a year) which prompted me to ditch them and go for something better. Garbage service grade damper not worth the time and $$, even if you get a lifetime replacement guarantee or other such hogwash. No place on a Z IMO.

Rusty, you will gain little to nothing with a pillowball on the front or rear of a Z. It's a double A arm design, and doesn't put much of a side load into the shock shaft

Wellllllll, it's clearly a case of pay now or pay later.

I don't mean to say that you can't get a good set of shocks under there for $700. because you most certainly can. Tokico Blues have a good rep, D-specs are highly recommended by most comments I've seen here, etc. All meet your pricing criteria.

But you CAN do yourself a disfavor by buying cheap junk. I won't name names as I don't have RECENT experience on the ones on my mind and that was on an S30. Suffice to say that you DO get what you pay for when it comes to something so market competitive as suspension components.

What I am saying is that for another month (or whatever) of saving another $200 to get the Koni or Bilsteins, it's worth it, particularly if you're not concerned with lowering and the associated costs of doing same, e.g., adjustable camber gear, etc.

For your application, I HIGHLY recommend Bilstein. Not just because I'm currently running them (check back in a couple weeks for a direct comparison with another brand I'm installing next week..... long story... if you want to read that story within a largely pro-Bilstein context, read this thread.)

Bilstein shocks offer - IMO - the BEST performance gains from an out-of-the-box non-adjustable shock for street/highway/DD use. Firm, yes. Bouncy and jouncy like stock, NO. Bilstein is known for their legendary ride quality in a performance oriented shock.

Are they worth the money? If you haven't figured out I'm going to say yes from statements above, well....

So, ref'g back to what I said before, you pay now or you pay later.... when you later ride in a car with Bilsteins (or Konis) or take-your-choice quality coilovers.... you'll wish you spent the extra "measly" couple hundred bucks.

I'll go to the market with a coupon to save 15 cents on a can of tomato sauce but I refuse to cheap out on shocks or tires.

Mic

PS That song line from the Sound of Music, "...these are a few of my favorite things." just popped into my head when I mentioned "shocks or tires". What the h**l is wrong with me?!

Thanks, still trying to adapt my mindset to double A arm ... lol. Still used to most of the sedan on the road.

Default Coilovers for Slamming

I'm not ready to take rude comments about why I'm slamming my car. I have looked around for coilovers meant for slamming and have no luck. I am in between fortune auto 500's or bc br coilovers. I am on 18" rims with 235 stretched on the front and 255 stretched on the rear. Front are 9.5" wide and rear are 10.5". What coils will make me super low so I don't have any wheel gap? I am currently on Tein Stree Basis and they feel great but have no dampening settings and don't go as low as I would like. Any reccomendations? My budget is 1100$
