Default 370Z Brake Test Crash and post analysis

For those of you who have read the article in Car and Driver concerning their crash during the Lightening Lap segment. I wonder if the 350Z also has the same cooling problem. I had experimented with Porsche 912 air deflectors last year but removed them since the bracket I made was heavy and I was afraid if I ever hit something and broke loose the bracket it would reek havoc. Is there a nice prefabed kit available?

For those who haven't read the article yet, basically they redid their braking test using the track pads available as an option on the 370Z Sport, however they still had sudden loss of stopping power after only a few (well more than stock pads and with better wear) laps. They then changed the brake fluid with ATE Blue which help some but still suffered premature brake loss compared to other cars. Their conclusion was that the 370Z had poor/no proper cooling provisions. Which I can see since my old M3 had actual stock built in ducts to cool the brakes.

The 350Z suffers the same fate. Best option is better pads, higher temp fluid and changing the way you drive.

I opted for a BBK because I wanted a longer pad life as well.

whomp whomp. its a shame considering the sport brakes are supposed to be sufficient for light track use. Then again they may have been putting them through hell, but its no secret the sport brakes arent meant for much more than hot lapping. Id be interested in seeing how the aftermarket rotors available out there would affect this performance, as maybe they offer better venting.

first company to come up with a sufficient cooling duct system for the Z will be successful, and the Z models surely could use it

That is the truth. There is a huge opportunity for this Unfortunately, any company vested in BBK technologies like stoptech, AP racing, Brembo definately won't develop them. Until then, we're limited to using dryer hose and zip lines for a kit that works haha.

yeah itll definitely be a shop or regular joe that comes up with it. thing is the ziptie/dryer hose really is a pretty efficient method. anything that any company comes up with is just going to be a prettier looking hose and color matched zip ties haha. Maybe we or Alliance could look into it because it would definitely sell, and would definitely improve enthusiast's times on the track, and theres nothing like a Z smoking overpriced german cars
