Sway bar- Spring Dynamics
hi,
I recently purchased HKS Sport III coilovers with the following spring rates: 11K Front, 12K rear.
My current setup is as follows:
Cusco Sways, Front set to soft, rear is not adjustable.
375lb/inch springs, dropped 1.2 inches on Tokiko D specs, set to 6.5/7 front, 5/7 rear
This setup is great, only issue is the spring rates are low causing a big damper stroke which leads to slow weight transfer during essess or braking into a turn.
Now my question is, the HKS coilovers are setup backwards to what most people run, which is front stiffer than the rear. I believe HKS set theirs up with the rear stiffer than the front for one of two reasons:
1) People who run aftermarket downforce on the rear
or
2) People who run front sway bars very stiff reletive to the rear so you can have a balance of a nice ride with very fast weight transfer.
My question is, is it good to assume I should run my cusco sway bar to full stiff front and then balance the dampeners for good handling characteristics, or are these spring rates ridiculous?

12k rear is pretty stiff imho, plus the rear is alot lighter than the front, especially with a CF hatch or whatever (or even if you take out the spare. w/ oem hatch)
did you choose those spring rates?
i mean you still want the car to rotate over and roll some.. are you underdampening the shocks? is the rear snappy?

My old setup has slight understeer near the max grip level. I havnt tracked the new setup yet, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced the HKS setup yet, and did not like the stiffer rear.
