I'm at the stage now where I need to upgrade my brakes, I've got it down to a choice of 2 BBKs

Project Mu - 6pot 355MM/4pot 345MM kit
Alliance - 15" 8P/ 14" 6PI've managed to get a good deal on both kits but I'm not sure which to choose?

My car doesn't get tracked, but it does spend most of its life on the back roads & country lanes

The alliance set up is about $1K cheaper but the JDM ***** in me likes the Mu's. The alliance kit is bigger (I know bigger isn't always better) & would fill my wheels better & I also think the colour would better suit my wheels.

I'm leaning more towards the alliance at the moment, but I'm not 100% sold on either kit yet.

Has anyone had both? or experienced both?

I am not sure about the Project Mu, but I do have the Alliance BBK. The brakes work extremely well. I have yet to have any major issues with them. I don't track them but just really use them on the street and backroads.

They stop hard and quick. I have yet to notice any fade in them. They also get a helluva lot of attention lol.

Plus, Mike is top notch when it comes to customer service. If ever have a question or concern I just send him a text and he gets right back to me. I had a little bit of a wait in receiving my kit and he hooked me up with some goodies just to compensate. He is always there to help which is nice to have especially after spending that much money into something.

If you get the Alliance, I would suggest getting them powdercoated. I have had just a slight few issues with cleaning my anodized ones. They didn't offer powdercoating when I purchased them, which is the only reason why I didn't get that option.

As for brake pad selection. I know there isn't too many different options for Alliance, but Mike can provide you with what is available. I am not sure about Project Mu.

Overall, I love the Alliance and for the price, I don't think you can get any better. They are extremely light and the performance is great. I don't see how the customer service could be beat and the ranges of colors and set-ups with Alliance is pretty vast.

Either way, I think you will be happy.

I was looking at getting the powdercoated versions, I think they should look pretty good behind my freshly painted wheels

What color are you looking to get?

I just had the normal brakes, not the Brembos. So, I can't really tell you the difference ha. I just know that it is kind of hard to just roll and then barely tap the brake without getting pushed forward. They stop extremely well.

They truly shine though from 100+ to about 50 or 60 mph. Will get you there very quickly.

As mentioned before, I think with either you can't go wrong!

I was in the same situation as you, Project Mu vs Alliance. The difference is I have seen held and bitten the Alliance brakes so that coupled with the great service Mike has shown so far made me buy Alliance. AND with the extra money I saved I bought coilovers Alliance brakes + coilovers > Project Mu (for me anyways).

Now in Project Mu's defense they are tried and true and track proven whereas Alliance is not. And its been MONTHS and there still are no real concrete numbers provided, so realistically its a bit of a gamble in my honest opinion. There haven't been any problems with the Alliance brakes which is good in that they seem to be quality, but when it happens how much they stand behind the product is yet to be determined. I can say though that I personally feel Mikes got my back and he will do whatever it takes to make me happy. He let me return a set that I wasn't happy with (color issue) and exchange them even though the original deal was only good cause he had that particular set left over. I'm sure its not something he can do every time and he lost some profit but he did it to make me happy! That to me means more than the Project Mu name.

I unfortunately cannot speak for PMu's customer service as I have not dealt with them.

Good luck in making your decision, either way you are gonna be stoked I know I am and would be just as stoked if I was rolling on PMus!!!!!

I dont know about Alliance pads, but i know from ppl who have the Project Mu BBKs that it's a bisch and a half to get new pads/rotors, and both are super rediculous expensive.

I dont know enough about the Alliance kits yet, but if it were me, i would opt for the Alliance kit for these reasons of what i do know:

1. Grand cheaper
2. cheaper replacement parts
3. More color options
4. Rotor hats color matched to calipers (same with Mu, but only avaliable in 1-2 colors i think)
5. Option to go bigger calipers (8/6 instead of 6/4) for cheaper
6. Alliance comes with EVERYTHING, and then some. (SS lines, etc)
7. Mikes da man
8. no waiting on replacement parts, whereas PMU pads out of stock alot here, must wait on shipment from Japan. (or at least been told by those with the PMU kits)

The ONLY 2 things better about the PMU kits imho are:

1. Will satisfy my jones'n for the JDM goodness
2. Longer company history, and race proven

Thats just my 2.

i have a customer who sold his Mus for Alliance. He says the Alliance build quality is on par if not better, and likes his Alliance setup more. He's on the G37 forums and ourvq.com so I'll have to see if he has an account here so he can chime in for a truly unbiased review. thanks for the props on customer service guys

sorry to hear about the cleaning issue as I really like the anodized yellow you got...was thinking about getting a set like that. what cleaning issues exactly...difficulty or change in finish? might try getting the anodized black depending on what the cleaning issue is.

I am no expert by any means - but I'd take alliance's brakes any day.
They'll also resell higher in relation to outlay costs.

The mu's will look cool, but b/t cost/pads/resale/mike (if he sticks to it!)...
alliance all day.

I've got a pretty gnarly set of brakes myself, but would have taken alliance
if I had it all to redo!

you would be far better served with a Stoptech kit IMHO - replacement parts are readily available, and the pad selection from outside suppliers is the best that I'm aware of (and I own GayDM brakes ) And they have alot of kits to choose from

^negative......price vs performance off the charts. 99.99999999% could never outbrake a standard ST40/22 stoptech set-up.......especially given the HUGE pad selection.
