Default Stock Ride Height

hey guys,
just wondering if any of you know of or can find a source with the stock ride height for an 05 (or anything close to that) 350z. my work has a spike strip i have to drive over every day when i leave the plant and it smacks the undercarriage of my car and drags all the way down it every time i go over it. there's a few complaints on record, but the response has been that it's in compliance with standards and that vehicles at regulation ride height should have no problem getting over it. anything you guys can provide would be great

Ride height is measured at fenders. This is from the Factory service manual:

hope this helps you get them to remove/modify the road bumps.....

wikipedia tells me that ride height isss:
Ride height (ground clearance or simply clearance in British English) is the amount of space between the base of an automobile tire and the underside of the chassis
THAT'S what i need to know. does the factory service manual have anything to say about that?

No, not that i have seen anywhere in the FSM. so i would measure those points shown in the pic above and then measure from the ground to the chassis so long as the fenders are at factory height......

print out the FSM pages and show your employer and give your measurements from the underside based on those measurements.

LOL at wikipedia for nissan ride heights...

my Z is lowered and if i even have my 60 pound dog i barely scrape over my apt speed bumps and it sounds terrible...do you have to hit them dead on or can you get an angle?

it doesnt really matter.. this is the best picture i can get to describe what i'm talking about:

you run over the spikes one way and they go down so you can get over the bump, then ones your tires cross they shoot back up and smack the underside of my car and then is dragged along it for the duration of the crossing. annoying

How about your tires? Tread measurement or air pressure? Are they stock tires (what sizes - 245x45x18? or something like that) Seriously.. it must be close and something like that could be a factor.

Even if your car does meet some standard.. I doubt they will rip out the spike strips for your complaint alone... Worth a try though

What you're looking for is the "ground clearance". While not listed in the FSM, it has appeared in Nissan specs like those shown on the website, in the sales brochures and pass on to car mags for reviews.

It's actually published here... https://my350z.com/nissan-350z/2008-...ers-rebate.php

but there's no way to verify that as it's not in the official brochure for the 2005 models.

4.7 seems mighty low. I would have guessed 5.5 to 6". It may represent the absolute lowest point which is probably the exhaust piping.

i'm not the only one who's put in an official complaint, there's been at least 2 or 3 reports other than mine. i work at a place where these reported issues are taken pretty seriously. the reason i was looking for this spec is that security's response to another person's issue report was that the spikes are 4" high and should therefore not pose a problem to anyone's vehicle. that's consisitent with the 4.7" measurement unfortunately... so unless they're lying about their spike height it's probably a lost cause
thanks dave for finding that number

Before you leave next time get out of your car with a measuring tape and measure them yourself and see. Although, if it is on a speedbump type deal where it is already raised a little, and then the spikes themselves are 4 inches, that may be why its scraping.

that's what i was thinking. we'll see. i'm not sure if i can get out and measure it though... i work at a nuclear power plant and i'm pretty sure security would freak out if they saw someone getting out of their car and sizing up their spike strip lol

lol Maybe get out of the car and walk to the security people first and tell them what you are doing and why so you don't get arrested for an act of terrorism.
