Default Rear of z wants to "jump" when hitting bumps in the road....help....

Not exactly sure whats going on. Every time I hit a large crack/bump in the road, the rear of the car jumps around. Mainly feel it on the highway. Very unstable at high speeds. Here's my set-up.

295/30/19 in the rear. There is some negative camber to the point where the inside of both rear tires wear significantly faster than the rest of the tread. I would say about 2 inches of the inside of each rear tire wears quickly.

I was told either I need new stuts or I needed an alignment so that more rubber is hitting the road.

I have gone to 3 shops and they are telling me that the suspension is OK. Could less negative camber be the problem?

Any suggestions?????

if like the shops say, that your suspension is fine, then it sounds like toe....

inspect everything well, and go get an alignment would be my first guess.......with out seeing it.

How can you look at a shock absorber and say it's OK? How many miles on the shocks? I'd hate to spend $ on an alignment then have to do it again after determining the shocks need replacing.

Alignment is key. What do you have for adjustments? Any aftermarket arms or bolt?

No aftermarket parts at all on the suspension.

I will start with the Toe and go from there. I do have 110xxx on the car. I know it's time to start replacing parts, but don't want to guess at it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought shocks too. I may as well just replace them now since I have the original shocks on the car.

i'm pretty sure it's the shocks that are the problem. it wouldn't hurt to get an alignment as well.

At 100k..there will be so many worn rubber and wear items you would not believe it. The sweeeet part I'd that you're unaware of how they have slowly affected your cars feel. Set of basic coil overs,. Newfr compression rod bushings, lower fr control arm bushings..replace your leaking and broken rear subframe diff bushings.. set of sway bars w new bushings... the difference will be nothing short of spectacular. 100 bucks says every part I listed is shot to hell on your.labor for all I'd cheap.

+1 and i'll bet its the LCA bushing that are the main thing causing the prob on his car right now, and if the LCA is popped, the compression rod bushing will be wasted is little to no time.

I speak from experiance.

Or just jack up one side, look at the LCA bushing, drop it, jack up the other side, look at the bushing drop it. Replace bushings if needed, then hit the alignment shop.

How's your tire wear? Do the rears wear fairly even, or do they wear with an odd look? OEM shocks from an 04 could be the problem or not the problem at all. My guess is not at all (assuming the shops you went to are worth anything at all).

How does the car feel in the rain? If there is way too much toe or toe out at the rear the water will want to make the rear track odd and will feel very un-nerving.

Very true about the rubber bushings. Something I didn't think about. Well.....I have a new DIY project. I have never changed bushings, but I will give it a shot next weekend. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas......

Yeah man. 110k on the original shocks? They are done. And +1 on a complete bushing kit. Parts are cheap, but the labor can be a pain. You will need access to a press.

I had rear wheel hop on my NEW Z when going over some imperfections in the road. The alignment was not totally junk from the factory. But, I feel that the stock struts and springs were not the best. I've since totally redone the struts and springs along with new wheels and tires with some SPL arms and such with Hotchkis sways and don't have that issue now!

I highly suspect is toe.... rear toe of the Z is really tricky. I had a customer with a messed up rear toe, its almost impossible to keep that car to stay on the correct lane.. My word of advice is to re-do alignment and start from there, possibly switch those tires around too..

My guess would be alignment too. But seeing how many miles you have on your stock struts, its probably time to replace them. Do the bounce test" to check them.

Since it's the rear that feels unstable, your compression rod and LCA bushings may still be "ok", but doesn't hurt to check. I was having problems with the front being unstable over bumps and new bushings up front solved it.

Mine had blown front bushings and it felt unstable in the rear. Very misleading

Anyone offer a package that covers all these needed bushings in one swoop? at 74k and I think I found a new project.
