Default Track/Brembo owners: What pads are you running?

I am interested in getting the Hawk HPS but Adam @ Z-1 Performance informed me that they aren't available.

So, what are you guys/gals running? How do you like them?

Thanks,
Victor

Hah? You can get one from www.tirerack.com easily. I believe the have tons on stock. I run Hawk HPS ordered from Tirerack (only fronts) and I would say....I'm moderately satisfied. I don't think the actual bite was greatly improved,(maybe I'm not sensitive) and there is a squeaking sound that irritates me at the low speed range (i.e parking lot). It isn't that bad and comes on and off, but that's the only reason I wasn't fully satisfied with the pad. Oh, brake dusts are greatly reduced, but it still generates some dusts. A lot better than stock Ferodo though.

The stock Ferodo are pretty good for what they're worth. I will say they do dust a lot, but they're pretty predictable and wear well, however, for $90 for all 4, they're a bargain.

Somethinng you guys out in CA don't see is what Hawks do to rotors when it's cold out. I've run HP+, Blue, and Black, and all chew up your rotors when it's cold, but the Black and Blue ones much more the HP+s. I'm pretty sure it gets cold in Oklahoma during the winter (but I could be wrong).

Stay away from the EBC Greenstuff pad. I've never seen a pad that has a greater propensity for causing pad deposition problems than the EBC. It's very common to hear someone with EBC Greenstuff pads complaining about how their rotors have "warped" when, in fact, the rotors are merely innocent bystanders and the problem is the pads. EBC Greenstuff is indeed a low dust pad, however, it is also low performance.

John, the pads that you talk about eating up the rotors are the track type pads... they tend to do that.

the HPS is a more street style pad. so perhaps it may be less harsh on the rotors.

I realize that, but I'd don't see the HPS as being any better than the OEM Ferodos. You implied you were looking for a high performance pad, and it's going to be difficult to find an ideal one for our application. As for Hawk, I have always found their pads to tear apart rotors much more than other pads... I'll stop being mr. negative now...

We seem to sell a lot of Nismo pads, but I've yet to get much feedback on them.

I bought a pair about 1 month ago. But i missed the last track event. I won't know how they work until May.

I agree with john. The stocks brembo pads seem good. Hey Victor, why not ask raceboy?

that is all.

I called our rep at Tire rack and he flat out told me not available yet....guess I will call again tomorrow!

We have used Hawk HPS on just about every WRX that has rolled in our shop in the last 3 years...not one car has ever had a problem, and many guys run several track days a year plus use it as a daily driver.

We run the HP Plus on our ITS car...have not replaced rotors the whole season.

We also offer the Endless lineup (widest range of compounds out there) if you are interested in those.

I have had great luck with the Carbotech XP's and that was with using R compound tires.

I've been using Cobalt Friction's GT Sport compound on all four corners and have been impressed. Good initial bite and high coefficient of friction, combined with a wide heat range make it the perfect street/solo/light track pad. They seem slightly less abrasive to rotors than the HP+, but still dust like the stock pads. I believe that Cobalt Friction is stocking this compund for the Brembo application and I highly recommend it for anything outside of hard-core racing!

I currently use the Cobalt GTS pads for track days, but I won't run them on the street since they squeal louder than a 3 year old having a temper tantrum. They have a substantial initial bite and a linear feel, but 15 minutes into a track session, and they've reached their temperature threshold.
